Essential Job Functions:
- Cloud Optimization & Cost Strategy: drive and maintain optimization across all levels of Atlan’s cloud infrastructure.
- Build and maintain a robust framework to monitor, analyze, and reduce cloud cost to lower COGS.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to identify waste and implement cost-aware designs with minimal manual effort.
- FinOps & Business Acumen: work with Finance and Product Ops on unit economics, cost per customer, and CAGR tracking.
- Create dashboards and observability tooling to provide visibility into cloud spend trends and influence engineering roadmaps.
- Tooling & Observability: design decentralized observability and cost ownership systems for distributed teams.
- Evaluate & implement 3rd-party tools (example: Cast AI, Karpenter, KEDA, HPA/VPA).
- AI-powered Automation: apply AI/ML for infra automation — predictive scaling, anomaly detection, cost forecasting; leverage LLMs/agents for internal workflows.
- 5+ years with cloud platforms—especially AWS (EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, Cost Explorer/Billing etc.).
- 3+ years of proven cloud cost optimization experience and deep knowledge of cost models/billing intricacies.
- Strong understanding of COGS, unit economics, CAGR, and cloud-native financial moClienting.
- Experience identifying and executing cost-savings across single-tenant microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on AI/ML or automation tooling experience for cost monitoring & optimization.
- Mandatory: Experience with Metadata connector and Data Lineage (OpenLineage).
- Experience in Metadata connector and Data Lineage (particularly OpenLineage) is required.
Nice-to-Have
- Familiarity with Karpenter, KEDA, HPA/VPA for autoscaling and right-sizing.
- Experience using/integrating tools like Cast.ai, KubeCost, OpenCost.
- Knowledge of distributed observability and decentralized cost management frameworks.
- Contributions to open-source cloud optimization / DevOps projects.
