Our Purpose
At SentinelOne, we are driven by a clear purpose: to give the advantage to those who secure our future. As AI reshapes how organizations build, operate, and innovate, the responsibility to protect them becomes more critical than ever. When you join SentinelOne, your work helps protect global enterprises, critical infrastructure, and the technologies shaping tomorrow. If you are motivated by meaningful challenges and want your impact to be real, measurable, and global, you will find purpose here.
About Us
SentinelOne is a company at the intersection of AI and security, pioneering a new operating model for cybersecurity. Our AI-native platform unifies protection across endpoint, cloud, identity, data, and AI systems to deliver autonomous detection and response with clarity and speed. By combining real-time analytics, intelligent automation, and a unified data foundation, we reduce noise, simplify complexity, and empower security teams to focus on what truly matters.
Our teams are builders, problem-solvers, and innovators committed to shaping the future of security. If you are excited to solve hard problems alongside talented, mission-driven people, we invite you to help us build a safer future for humanity.
What Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for people who are relentlessly curious and committed to continuous learning. AI is reshaping every function across our business, and we enable every team member, regardless of role or level, to build fluency in AI tools and concepts. Those who thrive here actively seek out new solutions, experiment thoughtfully, and apply what they learn to drive better, faster, smarter outcomes.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be tasked with taking ownership and acting on it, without being tied to a single team or codebase. As company priorities shift, you will move to where your skills make the biggest difference, whether that is a new product area, a scaling challenge, or an ambiguous problem nobody has framed yet. You should be excited about setting technical direction for large-scale distributed systems, comfortable diving into complexity, and eager to own the architecture, reliability, and operability of what you build, while influencing technical strategy across multiple teams and mentoring engineers at all levels.
What Will You Do?
Primary responsibilities include:
- Set technical direction by defining the architecture and technical roadmap for the systems you work on, aligning multiple squads of backend and frontend engineers around a coherent long-term vision.
- Drive complex initiatives end-to-end, leading the most ambiguous, cross-cutting projects from problem framing through production and delivering under uncertainty.
- Own the architecture by making foundational design decisions, choosing patterns and technologies for scale, reliability, performance, and maintainability, and establishing the standards others build on.
- Own operability and lifecycle at scale, shaping deployment, observability, patching, and upgrade strategy so that our systems stay secure, reliable, and current.
- Own outcomes, not just tasks, taking accountability from design through production and incident resolution.
- Multiply the team by mentoring and growing engineers, raising the engineering bar through design and code reviews, and serving as a force multiplier across the organization.
- Influence without authority, driving alignment and technical decisions across teams through clear communication and sound judgment.
- See your impact, as your work directly improves how customers deploy, operate, and trust SentinelOne, and is a visible part of key company initiatives.
What Skills and Knowledge Will You Bring?
Ideal candidates will have:
- 8 or more years of backend development experience, including a track record of technical leadership on large-scale systems.
- Proficiency in at least one of Go or Python, with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Solid experience with unit and integration testing, and with both relational and NoSQL databases, including database design and sharding.
- Proven experience designing distributed systems, including partitioning, consistency, and availability trade-offs, and architecting high-performance, microservices-based backend systems at scale.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as Kafka; experience with high-scale API design and resilience patterns such as circuit breakers; and a deep understanding of operating systems and networking fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with at least one public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and with Docker and Docker Compose.
- A strong ownership mindset and the agency to act without waiting to be told; comfort with ambiguity, breaking down unclear problems and delivering under uncertainty; and adaptability, learning new domains quickly and being happy to move between teams.
- Proven cross-team influence, driving alignment and technical decisions without formal authority, and a track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to their career growth.
- Excellent communication skills, including translating technical complexity into business context and leading projects in a hybrid or remote team.
- Open-source contributions, experience with AI coding agents and agentic development workflows, experience architecting software for on-prem, self-hosted, or air-gapped deployments, and hands-on experience with the Kafka ecosystem (Kafka Pub/Sub, Kafka Connect, etc.) are preferred.
