Furst-McNess Company is hiring a full-time Staff Accountant for our Rockford, ILheadquarters office. Â

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000 (compensation will be determined by relevant experience and the interview process)Â
Pay Type: Salary, paid bi-weeklyÂ
Core Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, start time between 7am-8amÂ
Work Setting: Hybrid (1 remote day per week, 4 days in-office)

POSITION SUMMARY:  Â
Furst-McNess Company is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role is responsible for preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with the month-end close process, and supporting financial reporting activities. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and able to work collaboratively across departments.Â

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Â
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and other routine accounting transactionsÂ
Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and investigate discrepanciesÂ
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including supporting schedules and account analysisÂ
Support financial reporting by preparing reports, analyses, and variance explanationsÂ
Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation in accordance with company policies and accounting standardsÂ
Support internal and external audit requests by gathering and organizing required documentationÂ
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to research and resolve accounting-related issuesÂ
Identify and recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controlsÂ
Ensure compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)Â
Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed asset, and other accounting functions as neededÂ
Performs other duties as assignedÂ
Â
QUALIFICATIONS: Â
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
2+ years of Staff Accountant experience requiredÂ
Knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reportingÂ
Experience working with accounting software or ERP systemsÂ
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applicationsÂ
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilitiesÂ
High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and confidentialityÂ
Effective written and verbal communication skillsÂ
CPA eligibility, CPA pursuit, or related professional development is a plusÂ
Maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordÂ
