Sr. Software Developer, E-Commerce Systems
Location:Â Remote- Latin America, Eastern Europe, Philippines.
Employment Type:Â Full time, Monday - Friday. 9AM - 5PM EST or CST.
Compensation: $15–$25 per hour ( $2,500- $4,000 Monthly ) Salary based on expertise.
We operate three home furnishings storefronts with a catalog of more than 100,000 SKUs from a large network of manufacturers. Our custom technology stack includes a Django backend, a React storefront running on Cloudflare Workers, and data pipelines that transform vendor spreadsheets, emails, SFTP files, and websites into clean product, pricing, and inventory data.
We are looking for a Software Developer to work alongside our lead developer in extending and improving this platform. Much of the work involves solving practical business problems: fixing unreliable vendor feeds, clarifying and improving pricing logic, building APIs, improving product data quality, and replacing manual spreadsheet workflows with dependable software.
We value engineers who investigate problems thoroughly, write meaningful tests, communicate clearly, and use AI coding assistants productively while remaining accountable for the code they ship.
What You'll Work On
- Product data. Vendor imports and feeds, our in-house PIM, categorization, images and data quality across a large, inconsistent catalog.
- Inventory and pricing. Feed ingestion (AWS Lambda, S3, SFTP), scrapers for vendors without feeds, and the pricing, deals and cart logic that depend on them.
- The storefront API. We're replacing Shopify with our own Django backend and a React Router storefront. You'll build and test the API endpoints the new site depends on.
- Search. Elastic search-backed search, facets and recommendations.
- Internal tools and automation. Find the manual, repetitive work across the business (merchandising, customer service, operations) and replace it with something reliable. Sometimes that's a script or an admin screen. Sometimes it's an LLM-based workflow, if that's the right tool for the problem.
- Infrastructure. We're moving hand-built AWS and Cloudflare resources to OpenTofu. Some exposure here is useful but not required.
How we work
- Tests come first. We write a failing test, then the code. Tests build their own data and assert on exact values. A test that only checks for a 200 response doesn't count.
- Typed, reviewed, small. Python is type-annotated and checked, TypeScript runs in strict mode, and changes go in as small, focused pull requests with one fix per commit.
- Production is careful work. Migrations, data fixes and infrastructure changes get agreed on before they run, and we don't commit secrets.
- We use AI coding assistants every day, and we review everything they produce. We keep written project conventions that the agents follow. We want someone who gets real speed out of these tools and still owns every line that ships, and who can spot when the assistant got it wrong.
What Success Looks Like
Success means fewer recurring data-feed failures, more accurate catalog and pricing information, dependable APIs, improved search and operational workflows, meaningful automated test coverage, and code that the team can confidently maintain.
- Strong Python programming skills and experience building production software.
- Solid SQL and PostgreSQL knowledge, including the ability to investigate query performance.
- Solid experience building and consuming APIs. Django Ninja, Pydantic or OpenAPI.
- Experience processing real-world data from CSV or Excel files, external feeds, scraping, or ETL pipelines.
- Sufficient React and TypeScript experience to contribute to frontend work when required.
- Strong testing practices, including assertions against specific business outcomes rather than response status alone.
- Good engineering judgment when choosing between scripts, application features, process improvements, and AI-based automation.
- Clear written communication for pull requests, technical documentation, tickets, and collaboration.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, work independently, and deliver maintainable solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Django, including its ORM, migrations, and admin tools.
- Familiarity with Django Ninja, Pydantic, OpenAPI, or similar API development tools.
- E-commerce experience involving product catalogs, PIM, order management, checkout, or Stripe.
- Experience with Elasticsearch or another major search platform.
- Familiarity with AWS Lambda, S3, ECS, Cloudflare Workers, or OpenTofu/Terraform.
- Experience working with large product catalogs or data-intensive retail systems.
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants in a reviewed, test-driven development workflow.
- Remote Work: Work from anywhere—our team is global, and we value work-life balance.
- Growth Opportunities: As a key player you’ll have the chance to shape your role and grow with us.
- Innovative Culture: Join a team that is passionate about leveraging data to solve challenges and drive success in a rapidly evolving market.
