Senior Piping Engineer Energy - Remote in Oak Ridge | Careers at AtkinsRéalis
Senior Mechanical/Piping Engineers – approximately 4 openings
- Primary focus ispipe stress analysis.
- Experience with finite element analysis and piping design/analysis is important.
- Experience supporting reactor/nuclear island piping and pressure vessels is highly desirable.
- Oil & gas candidates may have transferable experience, but nuclear experience and/or PE credentials will make candidates significantly stronger.
- Relevant piping codes includeASME B31.1, along with the other industry-standard nuclear codes/software listed in the job description.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates will ideally come from:
- Nuclear engineering organizations
- SMR companies
- Large AEC firms such asBechtel, Westinghouse, Client, etc.
- Candidates with direct experience working onnuclear islands/reactor projects will stand out.
- They are looking for genuine hands-on experience rather than candidates who simply have nuclear-related buzzwords on their resumes.
Important: Justin is reviewing a very high volume of resumes and typically spends only60–90 seconds per resume, so resumes need to clearly demonstrate the relevant experience immediately. We should avoid submitting candidates whose resumes contain nuclear terminology without meaningful nuclear project experience.
Selling Points for Candidates
Atkins has several strong selling points that we should highlight when recruiting:
- Atkins is a41,000-person global organization, with approximately7,000 employees working in nuclear worldwide.
- The U.S. nuclear organization is approximately350 people and is expected to double over the next year.
- Atkins is thesole owner of CANDU reactor technology and supports the existing CANDU reactor fleet.
- They are licensing theCANDU EC6 reactor in the U.S.
- They are developing the next-generationCANDU "MONARK” reactor, which is intended to compete with the AP1000.
- They are also supporting major existing nuclear projects and are increasingly being brought in by SMR companies that need additional engineering expertise.
- This creates an opportunity for engineers to work onhighly complex, technically challenging nuclear projectsand act as true subject matter experts
