Compensation:$78 - $116/hr, depending on experience & qualifications
Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead and support an onsite engineering team in Santa Clara, CA. This role will provide technical and people leadership for complex automation and controls projects supporting semiconductor manufacturing facilities, with responsibility for system design, integration, programming, commissioning, project execution, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage an onsite team of engineers, technicians, and programming specialists
- Provide engineering leadership, technical guidance, and subject matter expertise for instrumentation, controls, and automation systems
- Architect complete automation solutions including PLC, HMI, SCADA, industrial networks, and field devices
- Support facility management, gas life safety, cabinet monitoring, and other critical semiconductor manufacturing systems
- Lead PLC and HMI programming, SCADA communications, system integration, and related automation activities
- Lead development of HMI/SCADA systems with a focus on usability, performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Provide project leadership with scope, schedule, budget, and resource information
- Coordinate with internal and external global teams to establish and maintain successful project schedules
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex control system failures and production issues
- Support field verification, testing, commissioning, and startup activities
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop engineering and technical staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
- Provide training and support long- and short-term career development for team members
- Support conflict resolution and overall team performance
- Review and approve weekly employee time sheets
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited U.S. institution
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum of 10 years of directly related instrumentation, controls, and automation engineering experience
- Advanced experience with Allen-Bradley controls platforms, including Studio 5000 and RSLogix
- Advanced experience with Siemens controls platforms, including TIA Portal and S7
- Experience with Emerson Machine Edition
- Expertise with SCADA platforms such as Ignition, FactoryTalk, WinCC, and Cimplicity
- Experience with motion control, robotics, and high-speed automation systems
- Experience with MES integration, SQL databases, and IIoT systems
- Strong troubleshooting, system verification, testing, and commissioning experience
- Demonstrated engineering leadership and team management experience
- Ability to work effectively in active construction and operating facility environments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing or data center environments
- Experience performing field verifications within active manufacturing or construction environments
- Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles and best practices
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Experience coordinating engineering activities across multidisciplinary and global project teams
