We continue to expand Apple Pay and Wallet to new markets, partners, and capabilities, digitizing more of what people carry in their wallets.
Description
We're seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing engineering organization within Wallet, Payments and Commerce. You will be responsible for delivering secure, reliable, and delightful experiences that operate at massive scale in a highly regulated, global environment.
You will set direction for your organization, develop and grow engineering talent, and partner closely with Product, Design, Business, Legal, and Regulatory leaders to turn ambitious ideas into products customers love. You will bring clarity to complex and ambiguous problems, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and hold a high bar for quality, security, and privacy.
At Apple, there's no playbook. Success comes from curiosity, hands-on engagement, and a willingness to tackle challenges from first principles. You'll collaborate across disciplines, communicate complex ideas with clarity, and help define what world-class financial experiences look like at Apple scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and inspire a team of engineers and engineering managers, creating an environment of high trust, accountability, and craft.
- Define and communicate the engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap for your area, in alignment with product and business priorities.
- Own end-to-end delivery of critical initiatives, balancing speed, quality, scalability, security, and compliance.
- Partner with Product, Design, Business, Legal, and Regulatory leaders to align on priorities, trade-offs, and long-term investments.
- Make and guide key architectural and technical decisions, working closely with senior engineers and architects to ensure sound design and sustainable systems.
- Establish engineering practices and operational standards that drive reliability, testability, and measurable impact.
- Attract, hire, and retain exceptional, diverse talent, and build a strong leadership bench through coaching, feedback, and career development.
- Collaborate across WPC and broader Apple engineering to align on shared platforms and interfaces, and to leverage Apple-wide capabilities.
- Manage cross-functional dependencies, risks, and escalations, and communicate status and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership.
- Represent the engineering perspective in senior forums and help shape product and organizational strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven experience leading engineering teams, including managing managers or multiple teams, and delivering complex, high-impact software.
- Strong technical background in building and operating large-scale, distributed systems serving millions of users or high-volume transactions.
- Experience in payments, financial services, or other regulated domains, with an understanding of compliance, security, and privacy implications.
- Demonstrated success partnering with and influencing cross-functional leaders, including Product, Design, and Business stakeholders.
- Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineering talent, including growing future leaders.
- Experience setting direction and driving execution across ambiguous, multi-team initiatives.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both executive and engineering audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with money movement, tokenization, transaction processing, or other financial systems.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and systems built for scale and resilience.
- Experience collaborating with external partners, financial institutions, or payment networks.
- Experience building or evolving shared platforms that serve multiple products or business units.
- Familiarity with emerging payment standards and technologies shaping the industry's future.
- Master's degree or equivalent experience.
