We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in connector design and new product development. This position will focus primarily on developing new connector and cable assembly products, taking designs from concept through production.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing connectors, strong SolidWorks proficiency, and an understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and product performance requirements.
Location: Greater Cleveland Area, Ohio
Workplace Type:On-site
Compensation:$105,000โ$125,000 (negotiable based on experience)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including direct connector product design
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling and detailed engineering drawings
- Experience designing products using polymers and plastic materials
- Knowledge of connector design principles and manufacturing processes
- Experience with new product development, from concept through production
- Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Experience with cable assembly design preferred
- Familiarity with signal integrity preferred
- Experience with high-speed or high-density interconnect products preferred
- Experience conducting FMEA and leading formal design reviews
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and designers
- Ability to travel approximately 10%
- Must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. citizen or permanent resident)
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new connector and cable assembly products based on customer and market requirements
- Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and design documentation using SolidWorks
- Lead and participate in design reviews throughout the product development process
- Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineering to transition new designs into production
- Perform GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure product functionality and reliability
- Conduct design risk assessments, including FMEA
- Optimize product designs for manufacturability, performance, reliability, and cost
- Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Maintain engineering documentation and revision history
- Mentor junior engineers and designers
- Support improvements to existing products and engineering processes
