Senior Business Intelligence Engineer / Data Architect / SQL Server DBA
Senior, hands-on hybrid role | Business Intelligence โ€ข Data Architecture โ€ข Database Administration

Position Summary

Seeking a senior technical professional to architect, build, administer, and support enterprise data warehouse, integration, reporting, and analytics solutions. This role owns the full lifecycle from requirements and design through development, deployment, validation, optimization, and production support. The ideal candidate combines advanced SQL Server and Microsoft BI expertise with strong business communication and practical experience supporting reliable, secure, and scalable data platforms.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain enterprise data warehouse, data mart, staging, semantic, and reporting architectures using dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, star/snowflake schemas, metadata standards, and historical data strategies.
  • Develop, deploy, and support ETL/ELT pipelines using T-SQL, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent tools; integrate SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Azure SQL, files, APIs, and other enterprise sources.
  • Create governed Power BI datasets, semantic models, dashboards, KPIs, and executive/operational reports; develop SSRS and Excel-based reporting where appropriate and administer refreshes, gateways, workspaces, and access.
  • Administer production SQL Server environments, including security, backups, restores, disaster recovery, SQL Agent, monitoring, capacity, migrations, upgrades, availability, and least-privilege access.
  • Develop and optimize complex stored procedures, views, functions, tables, indexes, and data-processing routines; diagnose query, ETL, report, blocking, deadlock, and resource-performance issues.
  • Implement automated reconciliation, auditing, lineage, logging, error handling, alerting, and data-quality controls to verify complete and accurate processing from source systems through final reports.
  • Partner with business leaders, analysts, application teams, and executives to translate requirements into technical designs; manage work through Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), testing, UAT, change control, version control, deployment, documentation, and support.
  • Provide production incident response, root-cause analysis, architectural guidance, code/design reviews, standards, documentation, knowledge transfer, and mentoring for other team members.

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in BI, data engineering, data warehousing, database architecture, or SQL Server administration, including enterprise production support and end-to-end solution delivery.
  • Expert T-SQL and advanced SQL Server development; strong performance tuning using execution plans, Query Store, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs), Extended Events, Profiler, or comparable diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated data warehouse architecture and dimensional modeling experience, including conceptual/logical/physical models, Slowly Changing Dimensions, indexing, partitioning, retention, and scalable load design.
  • Hands-on ETL/ELT development with SSIS and/or modern cloud data services, including incremental processing, Change Data Capture (CDC), scheduling, fault-tolerant and recoverable data pipeline, validation, auditing, and heterogeneous source integration.
  • Strong Power BI experience with data modeling, Power Query, DAX, interactive reporting, security, deployment, and refresh administration; working knowledge of SSRS.
  • Production DBA experience with backup/recovery, disaster recovery, security, monitoring, automation, troubleshooting, migrations, upgrades, and high-availability concepts.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, work independently, document solutions, prioritize production and project demands, and collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, SSAS/tabular models, MySQL, Oracle, APIs, Git/Azure DevOps, Python, PowerShell, C#/.NET, Tableau, master data management, data governance, cloud migration, and mentoring experience. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience; applicable Microsoft certifications are desirable.
