• Experience administering, configuring, and maintaining Azure SQL Database, SQL Server (on prem & cloud), Managed Instances, and Synapse as needed
• Ability to design and implement backup, recovery, HA, and DR solutions
• Strong hands-on capability in performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
• Monitoring and troubleshooting database health and performance using Azure Monitor, SQL Profiler, and Extended Events
• Knowledge of database security including RBAC, encryption, auditing, and compliance alignment
• Experience with migration/modernization projects from on prem SQL Server to Azure SQL DB / Managed Instance
• Automation capability using PowerShell, T SQL, or Azure Automation.
• Willingness to provide 24x7 support / on call rotation for critical production systems.
Good-to-have (nice to include in screening): SSIS/SSRS exposure, dimensional vs OLTP understanding, ITIL/ServiceNow awareness, strong written/verbal communication.
Key Responsibilities*
• Administer Azure SQL platforms and ensure reliability, performance, and availability
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning for SQL databases
• Execute and validate backup/restore, HA/DR drills, and recovery readiness
• Perform proactive performance tuning, index optimization, and query troubleshooting
• Drive database security controls: RBAC, encryption, auditing, governance compliance
• Support migration and modernization activities (on prem → Azure)
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripts/automation
• Work with development teams on database design, stored procedure reviews, and data model optimization.
• Role expectations (as provided): Develop SSIS packages as per Data Architect instructions; maintain code in TFS and deploy SSIS packages; retrieve data, build reporting processes using SSRS; develop triggers/functions/stored procedures; support production processes
