Role Summary: 

Specter Aerospace is seeking an R&D Avionics Technician to install, integrate, and troubleshoot avionics hardware, wiring harnesses, and flight electronics on next-generation hypersonic flight vehicles. A successful candidate will have prior experience fabricating wiring harnesses to aerospace standards, integrating flight computers and telemetry systems, and troubleshooting avionics and electrical issues during hardware integration and bench testing.

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. With offices in Boston and Peabody, MA, Specter leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. This open application will be reviewed for roles based in any/all of our offices. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production. 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Install and integrate avionics components, wiring harnesses, sensors, and electrical subsystems on flight hardware 
  • Fabricate and route wiring harnesses according to aerospace standards 
  • Conduct electrical verification, continuity checks, and functional validation of avionics subsystems 
  • Support integration and testing of flight computers, telemetry links, and power distribution systems 
  • Troubleshoot and repair avionics and electrical issues discovered during integration, bench testing, or acceptance testing 
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and test plans 
  • Maintain accurate build records, test documentation, and configuration logs 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate's degree in Avionics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience 
  • 2+ years of relevant full-time experience as an Avionics, Electrical, or Aerospace Technician 
  • Experience with wiring, soldering, crimping, and harness fabrication 
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) 
  • Comfort reading and working from engineering schematics and wiring diagrams 
  • Available for up to 10% travel 
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required) 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to hand-assemble and rework PCBs with small or complex components 
  • Familiarity with ECAD and PCB design tools; Altium Designer experience is preferred 
  • Military avionics or instrumentation training (AET, 2A6X1) 
  • Aerospace, rocket, or flight hardware integration experience
