Role Summary
Specter Aerospace is seeking an Aerospace Engineer III-IV to support the design and analysis of high-speed airbreathing testbed vehicles. A successful candidate will have prior experience conducting numerical simulations of high-speed flight vehicles, supporting wind tunnel tests, and conducting detailed analyses of aerodynamic and aerothermal performance.Â

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. With offices in Boston and Peabody, MA, Specter leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Our Aerospace Engineer III/IV will be based in our Boston (Seaport) office. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.
Role & ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Lead the development and execution of numerical analyses of high-speed flight systemsÂ
- Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineersÂ
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersÂ
- Develop aerodynamic models of high-speed airbreathing vehicles using multi-fidelity dataÂ
- Lead wind tunnel test preparation and executionÂ
- Coordinate with design team to provide feedback on system designÂ
- Support trajectory optimization and analysis efforts (3DOF/6DOF)Â
- Other duties as assigned by the companyÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related disciplineÂ
- 3+ years of relevant full-time experienceÂ
- Experience conducting high-speed numerical simulations of aerospace vehiclesÂ
- Experience using any of the following CFD tools: Fun3D, US3D, Cart3D, CFD++, OVERFLOW, VulcanÂ
- Experience using grid preparation software (Pointwise, GridPro)Â
- Experience using scripting languages (Python, BASH, MATLAB) to aid in analysisÂ
- Experience conducting wind tunnel tests at academic, government, and private wind tunnelsÂ
- Experience with low fidelity methods for aerodynamic estimationÂ
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplineÂ
- 7+ years of relevant full-time experienceÂ
- Expert in computational analyses for high-speed airbreathing systemsÂ
- Experience in finite-rate reacting flow simulations for combustion studiesÂ
- Experience with automatic grid generation and process development for conceptual trade studiesÂ
- Active DoD security clearanceÂ
