Specter Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 to join our engineering team. In this role, you will support the design and development of mechanical components and systems, taking responsibility for specific parts and assemblies throughout the design process. The ideal candidate is a motivated engineer with a strong passion for mechanical design and innovative problem‑solving.Â

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. With offices in Boston and Peabody, MA, Specter leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Our Mechanical Engineer I will be based in our Boston (Seaport) office. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.
Role & Responsibilities
- Work in a rapid paced environment, designing systems and parts for hypersonic flight vehiclesÂ
- Generating practical solutions to open-ended engineering problemsÂ
- Create drawings for manufacturing releaseÂ
- End-to-end ownership of vehicle subsystems seeing them through prototype, test and productionÂ
- Analysis of components within a flight vehicleÂ
- Work between disciplines to efficiently design and optimize novel flight systems to meet internal and customer performance requirements Â
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related fieldsÂ
- Proficiency using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)Â
- Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced work environmentsÂ
- Strong collaborative skills and a drive to produce quality workÂ
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics, materials, thermo/fluids, etc…)Â
- Available for up to 10% travel for test activitiesÂ
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior professional or student group work experiencesÂ
- Familiarity with GD&TÂ
- Prior aerospace experienceÂ
- Prior FEA/CFD experienceÂ
- Familiarity with DFM/DFAMÂ
- Previous hands-on experience in a technical shop, lab, or a student organizationÂ
