About the Role
This role is funded through the Maryland Department of Health, Population Health Improvement Fund (PHIF). The Produce Prescription (PHIF-Rx) initiative supports the integration of Food Is Medicine interventions into healthcare and community settings. The program provides fresh produce and related nutrition services to individuals experiencing food insecurity and managing diet-related health conditions, while advancing partnerships, evaluation, and sustainable reimbursement pathways for Produce Prescription programs across Maryland. The Nutrition Prescription Specialist supports the planning and day-to-day delivery of Produce Rx and related nutrition prescription initiatives. Working with the Senior Manager, healthcare partners, and internal teams, the Specialist coordinates food distribution, partner sites, participant communications, records, and billing. The role helps expand access to nutritious food for people experiencing food insecurity and diet-related health conditions.
Essential Functions
Project Management
- Maintain project plans, workflows, milestones, electronic records, and program documentation.
- Track site compliance with food handling requirements and support coalition meeting planning.
- Monitor Produce Rx food spending and flag budget or implementation issues to the Senior Manager.
Project Implementation
- Coordinate with Operations, Food Resources, Volunteer, and other teams to ensure food is ordered, received, stored, packed, and staged for delivery.
- Track deliveries, missed orders, replacement boxes, vendor issues, and distribution from satellite sites, coordinate pickups and deliveries.
- Purchase program materials and supplies; monitor inventory and conduct on-site food quality checks
- Process invoices and work with Finance to complete accurate monthly billing on schedule.
- Prepare education materials and operating procedures and help train healthcare partner staff.
Communication & Customer Service
- Prepare outreach materials and presentations for clinics, hospitals, participants, and other stakeholders; schedule partner meetings.
- Coordinate participant reminders, nutrition education, surveys, and feedback through approved channels, including text messaging.
- Track partner and participant concerns and feedback; follow up respectfully and share trends that can improve the program.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clinical partners, CAFB teams, vendors, volunteers, and participants.
Miscellaneous
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (nutrition or public health preferred)
- At least two years of office or clinical experience providing administrative or program support.(healthcare or Food is Medicine programs preferred)
- Experience coordinating projects across teams, including operational details and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication, meeting coordination, organization, and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of diet-related diseases and basic epidemiology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn data and web-based systems.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and travel throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with program evaluation, surveys, and outreach materials.
- Experience with databases or electronic medical records and platforms such as NetSuite, Partner Link, or SurveyMonkey.
- Spanish fluency
- Experience working with communities facing food insecurity.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Prolonged sitting and computer use.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Local Travel throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region; occasional extended hours or weekends for special events.

Compensation:
- $32.10 - $41.27 per hour
Employment term
Temporary, grant funded for 22 months. The role may become permanent or otherwise extended depending on program growth and funding.
