Job Description

TheSpecialist, Internal Communications, will support the execution of internal communications strategies to enhance U. S. Steel’s reputation, position the company as an employer of choice, and foster the best possible employee experience. This individual will produce content for various internal channels, support the distribution of information to appropriate audiences, and coordinate logistics for internal employee activities.

The role focuses on enterprise communications (e.g., partnership updates), with a secondary focus on non-represented employees, and reports to the Coordinating Manager, Internal Communications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Employee Engagement (25%): Responsible for executing day-to-day enterprise communications using Communications-managed channels, including digital screens and online platforms. Maintain team’s mailbox aliases and coordinate with IT to ensure accurate employee distribution lists. Lead day-to-day real-time employee platform, targeting messages, offering business partner training, rolling out functionality enhancements, and driving adoption. Handle dissemination of internal messages sent on behalf of CEO, CCO, Leadership Team and USS Communications.
  • Employee Content Creation (25%): Create engaging written content and graphics for internal communication channels. Work with leadership and various business unit leaders to identify communications opportunities. Execute quarterly communications efforts around financial reporting, as well as enterprise safety communications strategy and implementation; work directly with Senior Leadership Team members for input and execution.
  • Project Management & Logistical Support (25%):Develop supporting communications (i.e., agendas, presentations) and execute employee engagement activities, including regular all employee town hall meetings, advocacy campaigns, and integration update sessions. Support development of collateral and handle logistics for twice-yearly business update sessions. Assist in managing vendors. Maintain internal trackers and shared files.
  • Business Partner SPOC (15%):Serve as the SPOC for business partners in IT, Legal, Cybersecurity, and Safety, offering editorial guidance on enterprise-wide communications, channel coaching and timing.
  • Employee Data, Feedback and Measurement (10%):Track effectiveness of internal communication initiatives and platforms, using key performance indicators and analytics; share results to provide on actionable insights and inform decision-making. Monitor employee-centric issues for trends at Basic Labor Agreement-covered facilities (e.g., closings, workforce impacts). Monitor employee comments on X App and social media; coordinate responses, when required. Analyze employee information and engagement; leverage Microsoft forms, AI, and other tools to create pulse surveys and gauge success of internal communications efforts; develop quarterly reports to track progress. Monitor employee feedback and inboxes (i.e., Office of CEO, USS Communications, Leadership Team) and coordinate communications response.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience in internal communications or related field. Agency experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and lead by influence.
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail. Adaptable to new situations and challenges.
  • Proficiency in using communication tools and platforms, such as email marketing software, intranet systems, and social media.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft suite of software and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Knowledge of change management principles and practices is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva.

Other Details:
  • This position is remote.
  • Travel approximately 15%.

Salary: $65,000- $75,000. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
