Description of Duties and Tasks:
- Provide technical and instructional support for the CNC machining program, including setup, calibration, and maintenance of CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment.
- Assist instructors in preparing lab exercises, demonstrations, and hands-on training activities aligned with CNC machining curriculum and industry standards.
- Monitor and enforce lab and shop safety protocols, ensuring students follow proper procedures when operating CNC equipment and hand tools.
- Maintain inventory of tooling, materials, and consumable supplies, and coordinate procurement or replacement as needed.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs or vendor service calls to minimize instructional downtime.
- Support curriculum development by researching current CNC machining technologies, software (e.g., CAD/CAM programs), and industry certifications.
- Assist with student assessments, including monitoring skill demonstrations, machine operation competency, and program-required certifications.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance logs, and safety inspections in compliance with college and industry regulations.
- Collaborate with faculty to update lab layouts, equipment lists, and instructional materials to reflect current manufacturing practices.
- Provide technical training or onboarding support for new instructors, adjuncts, or lab assistants working within the CNC program.
- Assist with program outreach efforts, including equipment demonstrations for prospective students, industry partners, or advisory committee members.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and institutional safety standards specific to machine shop and CNC lab environments.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of CNC machining principles, including mill and lathe operation, setup, and programming.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software commonly used in machining and manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of G-code and CNC programming languages.
- Knowledge of shop safety standards, including OSHA regulations applicable to machine shops and industrial lab settings.
- Knowledge of precision measurement tools and quality control techniques (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Knowledge of materials science as it relates to metals, alloys, and machining processes.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for CNC equipment and related machinery.
- Knowledge of inventory management and procurement processes for tooling and consumable supplies.
- Knowledge of instructional support methods and adult learning principles in a technical/vocational education setting.
- Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies in advanced manufacturing and automation.
Skills:
- Operating, setting up, and troubleshooting CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Using precision measurement tools to verify part accuracy and quality.
- Skill in performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on CNC equipment.
- Organizing and maintaining lab inventory, tooling, and supplies.
- Communicating technical information clearly to students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrating machining techniques and safety procedures to students in a hands-on lab setting.
- Maintaining accurate records, logs, and documentation.
- Identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions efficiently to minimize downtime.
