PGS Worldwide is seeking Software Integration Engineers in Sterling Heights, Michigan for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. Multiple experience levels are available. These positions will integrate and test real-time embedded software and hardware on combat vehicle systems, with a strong focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, networking, troubleshooting, software verification, and hardware/software integration.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience integrating and testing software applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience building or maintaining software and hardware integration test environments.
  • Understanding of Ethernet and CAN bus protocols.
  • Experience with Git and Jira and/or GitLab configuration-management tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems involving software, hardware, networking, and system integration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and vehicle-test teams.
  • Ability to work on combat vehicle systems.

For the entry-level opening:

  • Relevant software engineering or integration internship experience.
  • Experience integrating applications on Linux, including exposure to:
    • RPM packaging
    • Binary executables
    • Drivers
    • Shared objects
    • Static libraries
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance required.

For the senior-level opening:

  • 4+ years of software integration experience.
  • Experience integrating software applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less-experienced engineers.

Preferred Skills

  • Embedded systems experience.
  • Bash, PowerShell, or Python scripting.
  • C and C++ programming.
  • VxWorks or another real-time operating system.
  • MIL-STD-1553.
  • UML modeling tools.
  • DOORS.
  • CMMI development environments.
  • Qt Framework and QML.
  • Ethernet-based protocols including SSL/TLS, SSH, and SFTP.
  • Nessus and Coverity cybersecurity scanning.
  • System hardening and STIG implementation.
  • Virtual-machine configuration and use.
  • NI TestStand.
  • Combat vehicle systems experience.

What You'll Do

  • Integrate and test software applications running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Integrate hardware components into combat vehicle systems.
  • Build and maintain software/hardware integration testbeds.
  • Test and troubleshoot Ethernet and CAN bus communications.
  • Package and deploy Linux software components.
  • Troubleshoot drivers, libraries, executables, and hardware/software interfaces.
  • Collaborate with engineering and vehicle-test teams to investigate reported issues.
  • Analyze test and vehicle data to determine root causes.
  • Support scripting, networking, cybersecurity, and software-verification activities.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet technical, performance, process, and quality requirements.
  • Senior engineers will also mentor less-experienced team members.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • Full-time onsite in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
  • 9/80 schedule.
  • Typical working hours are approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Occasional customer-site travel may be required; the senior opening indicates approximately 5% travel.

Pay

  • $37.19–$55.57 per hour, depending on experience level and position.
