Job Summary
We are seeking a Software Engineer (Java/Angular) with full-stack development experience to support the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of enterprise applications for a mission-critical Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) federal healthcare program.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Angular/TypeScript, Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST APIs, along with experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve coding productivity, testing, debugging, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Angular/TypeScript and Java/Spring Boot.
- Build responsive frontend components using Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Develop and integrate backend microservices and REST APIs.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend services and enterprise systems.
- Implement data access and persistence components using JPA/Hibernate and relational databases.
- Write SQL queries and support database integration, including Teradata.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, Amazon Q Developer, ChatGPT, Claude, or comparable tools for code generation, refactoring, debugging, testing, and documentation.
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Develop unit and integration tests using JUnit 5 and appropriate frontend testing frameworks.
- Troubleshoot application, API, UI, and integration issues and support root-cause analysis.
- Participate in code reviews and follow established coding, security, and quality standards.
- Maintain API documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Support application deployments and integrations in AWS and Docker-based environments.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, technical leads, QA, DevSecOps, business analysts, and architects.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical discussions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and REST API development.
- Experience developing frontend applications using Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with microservices and frontend/backend integration.
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate, relational databases, and SQL.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools for coding, debugging, refactoring, testing, or documentation.
- Ability to review and validate AI-generated code for quality, correctness, security, and maintainability.
- Experience with JUnit 5 or comparable testing frameworks.
- Experience with Maven, Git, and Agile/Scrum development practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal government or healthcare technology programs.
- Familiarity with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, or Program Integrity systems.
- Experience with AWS, Docker, and cloud-native applications.
- Familiarity with Teradata and Spring Cloud/OpenFeign.
- Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI, SonarQube, and DevSecOps practices.
- Familiarity with distributed caching technologies such as Hazelcast.
- Exposure to enterprise content management platforms such as IBM FileNet.
- Experience using AI tools to improve automated testing, code quality, and developer productivity.
Work Environment
The Software Engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary technology team supporting enterprise application development and modernization within the CMS federal healthcare environment. The role involves collaborating with technical leads, senior engineers, QA, and other stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $76,421 - $138,911 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
