Organization: Client Quantum Computing Research
Interview Format: Two Rounds (1. Hiring Manager Screening - 60 minutes; 2. On-site Interviews with the team (three interviews - 60 minutes [one team member during each of the 60 minute blocks])
About the Role
Client is pioneering the development of a scalable quantum computing platform based on semiconductor spin qubits. As a Software Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in advancing the software infrastructure that enables the characterization, calibration, and operation of next-generation quantum computing hardware.
Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experimental physicists, engineers, and researchers, you will design and develop automation solutions that support complex quantum device measurements. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of quantum processor bring-up and experimentation.
This position is ideal for a software engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems in a dynamic R&D environment where requirements evolve alongside scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain software frameworks that automate quantum device calibration and measurement workflows.
Collaborate closely with experimental physicists to understand measurement requirements and translate them into robust software solutions.
Architect and enhance automation systems used to configure, characterize, and optimize quantum computing hardware.
Develop tools and diagnostic capabilities that improve system observability, troubleshooting efficiency, and operational reliability.
Build scalable infrastructure to support parallelized measurement execution and increased laboratory throughput.
Implement well-structured, maintainable, and thoroughly tested software capable of adapting to evolving research needs.
Own and deliver software features independently, from requirements gathering and design through implementation and validation.
Contribute to software best practices, including testing strategies, code reviews, version control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
7+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong proficiency in Python and scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, NetworkX, or similar.
Experience developing software for measurement systems, hardware control, laboratory automation, or related engineering environments.
Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks and comprehensive test suites.
Proficiency using Git and modern software development practices.
Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate requirements and develop effective technical solutions.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical disciplines.
Familiarity with graph-based algorithms, workflow orchestration, or distributed systems.
Exposure to parallel computing, scientific instrumentation, or hardware-software integration.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience processing, analyzing, or visualizing scientific or engineering data.
Background in mathematics, physics, or other quantitative disciplines.
Experience working in research, laboratory, semiconductor, or emerging technology environments.
Knowledge of quantum computing concepts is beneficial but not required.
What You'll Gain
Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge quantum computing research and technology development.
Exposure to complex hardware-software systems at the forefront of semiconductor innovation.
Collaboration with world-class scientists, researchers, and engineers.
The ability to influence architecture and technical direction in a rapidly evolving research environment.
Meaningful ownership of software solutions that directly accelerate quantum technology advancement.
