Scope

The Mayo Clinic Echo Team is seeking a Software Engineer to support and advance critical cardiology systems through front-end development, system modernization, and on-demand incident resolution. This role partners closely with system engineers and clinical stakeholders to deliver React-based user interfaces, support HL7 integrations, enhance education and training workflows, and ensure system resiliency, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain React-based user interfaces
• Work with backend APIs to integrate and display data
• Support HL7 integrations within healthcare systems
• Troubleshoot incidents and implement system enhancements
• Support vendor upgrades and maintain documentation

Key Expectations (Manager Inputs)

• Java isnot a deal breaker, but basic knowledge is preferred
• Understand Java as abackend/business logic layer (rules, workflows, validations, APIs)
• Read and understand existing Java code conceptually (no backend ownership required)
• Identify what logic:
  • Stays in the backend
  • Needs to be reflected in the UI (state, validation, workflows)
• Build React UI thatconsumes APIs and reflects backend behavior
• Donot rewrite backend logic in React; focus on UI behavior and state management

Requirements

• Strong experience in healthcare technology
• Experience with modern application frameworks (React)
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle
• Ability to troubleshoot incidents and implement enhancements
• Strong understanding of HL7 and its role in healthcare systems
• Ability to work with HL7-based integrations and understand patient data flow between systems

Java & HL7 Expectations

• Ability to read Java code and understand:
  • Business logic flow
  • Data models / DTOs
  • Validation rules
  • Conditional logic and workflows
• Translate backend logic into:
  • UI behavior
  • Component state
  • API interactions
  • User workflows in React
• HL7 Experience:
  • Understand what HL7 is and why it is used
  • Understand how healthcare systems exchange data
  • Experience working with HL7-based integrations (no need to design standards)

Additional Requirements

• Strong communication skills and problem-solving mindset
• Ability to create, debug, and maintain React code
