Software Developer

Information Technology  ·  Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)  ·  Full-time, Exempt

UniPro Foodservice is looking for a software developer who wants to work across the whole stack instead of one piece of it. On most of our projects, the same person builds the front end, the service behind it, and the integration that connects it.

We’re a small development team. The applications we support get used every day by Members, Suppliers, and our own staff, so you’ll know the people using what you build.

About UniPro

We’re a cooperative of independent foodservice distributors. Our Members compete against companies many times their size, and they win by staying closer to their customers and moving faster. UniPro gives them the scale, buying power, supplier relationships, and increasingly the data and technology that would otherwise be out of reach.

The software we build is a real part of that. It’s how Members do business with us.

What you’ll do

Build across the stack

  • Build features end to end, from the interface to the application logic to the data underneath.
  • Work in our current stack. Vue.js and TailwindCSS on the front end, PHP/Laravel and MySQL behind it, all running on Ubuntu and AWS. You’ll also pick up whatever else a project needs.
  • Build user-facing features that are usable, accessible, and work on the screen sizes people actually have.
  • Build and maintain APIs, services, and scheduled processes.

Connect systems

  • Build integrations between our applications, vendor platforms, and Member and Supplier systems: APIs, file exchanges, and EDI.
  • Write and tune SQL, and work with our data team on data-driven features.

Keep it running

  • Maintain and improve applications already in production, including code you didn’t write.
  • Write tests, review code, and help releases go out cleanly through CI/CD.
  • Keep an eye on performance and reliability, from query efficiency to page load and rendering.
  • Follow secure development practices: credential handling, keeping dependencies current, and protecting Member and Supplier data.
  • Learn where your code actually runs. Our applications sit on Ubuntu servers in AWS, and we want you comfortable enough to read a log and track down a problem.
  • Diagnose problems when something breaks, document what you found, and propose a fix.

Work with the people who use it

  • Sit with business stakeholders to understand the workflow before you build for it, and get to clear acceptance criteria before you start.
  • Use AI coding tools where they help. We expect generated code to be reviewed and tested like anything else.

What we’re looking for

  • A college degree or equivalent certifications. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Roughly 3 to 5 years building and supporting web or business applications.
  • Solid fundamentals in at least one modern language, plus HTML, CSS, and JavaScript or TypeScript. We prefer PHP/Laravel experience, since that’s what our existing applications run on.
  • Experience with a component-based frontend framework, and with server-side code and APIs.
  • Comfort with relational databases and SQL.
  • Git and code review as normal practice.
  • Enough comfort at the Linux command line that working on a server isn’t a problem.
  • Effective, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools. This is specific knowledge we’re hiring for, and an area we’ll keep investing in.
  • Evidence that you’ve picked up something unfamiliar and gotten productive with it. That matters more to us than matching our stack exactly.

Nice to have, and we’ll teach you the rest

  • Our specific stack: PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, TailwindCSS, MySQL.
  • EDI or file-based integration work.
  • AWS, Ubuntu/Linux administration, or Nginx.
  • Automated testing and CI/CD, and GitHub workflows.
  • Snowflake, D365 F&O, or other systems we integrate with.

Why you might want this job

  • The scope is wide. You won’t be assigned one piece of one application and left there.
  • Your work gets used. We’re small enough that you’ll see it running in the business and hear about it when it helps.
  • You’ll work directly with the people you’re building for.
  • There’s room to grow, and we invest in further training to help you get there.

Practical details

  • Reports to the Manager, IT Development.
  • Based in Atlanta, GA on a hybrid schedule. We’ll consider fully remote for the right person.
  • Occasional travel, under 10 percent.
  • Occasional work outside normal hours to support releases or production issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
