Summary of Responsibilities:
The Social Media Content Specialist supports the mission of Highlands College by managing day-to-day social media execution across multiple accounts, platforms, brands, and content calendars. This role keeps social media projects organized, on schedule, on brand, and aligned with the overall media strategy of the Strategic Communications department.
The Social Media Content Specialist writes and edits social media copy, schedules and publishes content, manages engagement, coordinates content needs, and supports campaign execution.
This role also contributes to content ideation and creative development by helping identify story opportunities, social trends, and engaging content ideas that connect with key audiences. This role requires a strong project manager, competent writer, creative contributor, and detail-oriented teammate who can manage multiple priorities with excellence.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage social media calendars and posting.
- Maintains multiple content calendars for assigned social media accounts, brands, and campaigns.
- Schedules and publishes content across platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other relevant channels.
- Prepares captions, tags, links, stories, reels, graphics, videos, and platform-specific posting details.
- Reviews content before publishing to ensure accuracy, grammar, brand alignment, and visual consistency.
Coordinate social media projects and workflows.
- Tracks social media requests, deadlines, approvals, deliverables, and posting schedules.
- Coordinates with teammates, student contributors, and internal departments to gather content and meet deadlines.
- Uses project management tools to organize campaign timelines, event coverage, recurring content, and account-specific priorities.
- Communicates project status and priorities clearly to keep content moving on time.
Write, edit, and contribute to creative content development.
- Writes clear, compelling, and on-brand captions for posts, stories, reels, campaigns, and event coverage.
- Contributes creative ideas for social media content, campaigns, trends, student stories, event coverage, and brand-specific initiatives.
- Adjusts tone and messaging based on the platform, audience, brand, and account.
- Edits and proofreads copy for grammar, clarity, accuracy, and brand voice.
- Helps identify content opportunities by staying aware of social trends, audience behavior, campus moments, and ministry stories.
- Supports additional writing needs for blogs, web, email, or campaign content as needed.
Support engagement, campaigns, and reporting.
- Actively monitors accounts for comments, direct messages, tags, and mentions, and is expected to reply in a timely, on-brand manner, including answering questions, addressing concerns, and engaging with followers to build community.
- Supports organic social media campaigns by coordinating content, copy, assets, scheduling, publishing, and creative ideas.
- Assists with real-time social media coverage for Highlands College events and brand-specific events.
- Tracks basic content performance and provides updates to support future content planning.
Collaborate and contribute strategically.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with Strategic Communications teammates, brand leads, and internal departments to ensure social content supports broader messaging and institutional goals.
- Contributes strategic thinking to content planning, offering input on how social media efforts align with overall brand and communications strategy.
- Brings innovative, forward-thinking ideas to content development, campaign structure, and audience engagement approaches.
Other Duties:
- Participate in ministry at Church of the Highlands and Highlands College by leading small groups.
- Affirm and uphold the Statement of Faith and the Core Values and DNA of the College, exemplifying all by word and lifestyle.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and objectives of Highlands College.
Leadership Requirements:
- Coordinates student social media volunteers or student content contributors as needed.
- Communicates clear expectations, deadlines, and content needs to student contributors and creative support teams.

- Understanding of social media trends, Gen Z + Alpha preferences, and engagement techniques.
- Familiarity with managing multiple social media brands, accounts, and content calendars.
- Familiarity with tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Later, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, Meltwater, ManyChat, Monday.com, Asana, Trello, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of AI tools for content development, research, ideation, and workflow efficiency while maintaining authentic, brand-aligned communication.
- Basic understanding of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar content creation tools is preferred.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in social media management, digital marketing, communications, or content coordination preferred.
- Experience managing multiple social media calendars, scheduling content, writing captions, and coordinating content projects preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple social media accounts, brands, or campaigns at one time preferred.
- Experience using project management tools and social media scheduling platforms preferred.

Moderate physical activity required, including agility for on-site and off-site content coordination, event coverage, and social media content support.
Direct Reports:
This position is not a team lead for any Highlands College teammates. This position may help coordinate student social media volunteers or student content contributors as needed.
