JOB DESCRIPTION
X8 is seeking a motivated DoD SkillBridge Product Development Intern to join our team in support of an innovative, cloud-based software platform designed to advance cyber operations for government customers.
This 12–16 week, mentor-guided internship provides transitioning service members with the opportunity to apply their cyber mission experience in a hands-on product development environment. Working alongside X8's engineering and leadership teams, the selected candidate will contribute to the development of real-world software capabilities while gaining practical experience with Python, AWS, modern software development workflows, and AI-enabled development tools.
Ideal candidates will bring experience as a developer (infrastructure or capabilities), Exploitation Analyst (EA), or interactive/cyber operator, with a background supporting USCYBERCOM, JSOC, or Intelligence Community mission partners. This opportunity is well suited for individuals looking to translate their operational and technical expertise into commercial software development while continuing to support the national security mission.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Develop and modify backend and frontend services using Python within an AWS cloud environment.
- Collaborate with X8's engineering team through a Git-based, pull-request-driven development workflow, including branching, code review, testing, and continuous improvement.
- Leverage AI-enabled coding tools to support feature development, test generation, debugging, UI enhancements, and backlog management.
- Apply cyber mission knowledge and operational experience to ensure product capabilities and development decisions remain aligned with real-world mission requirements.
- Support local and TDY product demonstrations and technical engagements with government customers.
- Participate in product roadmap discussions and gain exposure to customer outreach, product strategy, and contract planning alongside X8 leadership.
- Work within a mentor-guided, sprint-based Agile/SAFe development environment while contributing to software capabilities used by the product
- Relevant cyber mission experience in software or capability development, exploitation analysis (EA), or interactive cyber operations.
- Experience supporting USCYBERCOM, JSOC, or Intelligence Community mission partners.
- Hands-on experience with core AWS cloud services and cloud-based development environments.
- Python development experience.
- Familiarity with GitHub and/or GitLab, including branching, pull requests, and code review processes.
- Experience using AI-enabled development tools, including AI-assisted pair programming or code-generation tools.
- Must be within your Service's authorized SkillBridge participation window and have command approval to participate in accordance with DoDI 1322.2
WHAT DESIRED SKILLS YOU'LL BRING
- Experience with frontend or user interface (UI) development.
- Experience working with large-scale data or big data environments within AWS.
- Relevant technical certifications or qualifications, such as Security+, AWS certifications, Cyber Mission Force (CMF) qualifications, or comparable credentials
MINIMUM CLEARANCE REQUIRED
- Active TS/SCI CI Poly is required.
- Program: DoD SkillBridge Internship
- Duration: 12–16 weeks
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
- The internship is mentor-guided and structured around sprint-based Agile/SAFe development.
- There is no cost to the participant. The DoD continues the participant's active-duty pay and benefits throughout the approved SkillBridge internship.
- X8 does not provide compensation during the internship and does not bill SkillBridge intern hours to any government contract
COMPENSATION
SkillBridge interns who successfully complete the program and demonstrate strong technical performance may be considered for full-time employment opportunities with X8 LLC, subject to company hiring needs at the time the internship concludes.This is a hands-on internship designed to provide meaningful engineering ownership and practical product development experience. Participants will have the opportunity to develop, review, and commit code supporting an active X8 software product while gaining exposure to the broader technical and business processes involved in bringing cyber capabilities to government customers.
