The Skid Steer Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of skid steer equipment to support site development activities, includingrough and fine grading of subgrades for sidewalks, landscaping, concrete pavement, and asphalt installations. This role requires precision, attention to grade control, and the ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate skid steer equipment to performsite preparation, grading, and material handling activities.
  • Performfinish grading and shaping of subgrades for:
    • Sidewalks and pedestrian pathways
    • Concrete pavement placements
    • Asphalt paving surfaces
    • Landscaping areas and swales
  • Grade surfaces usinggrade stakes, and site plans to achieve proper elevations and slopes.
  • Load, move, spread, and level materials such as soil, rock, sand, and aggregate.
  • Assist paving and concrete crews withsubgrade preparation, material distribution, and cleanup.
  • Perform routineequipment inspections, maintenance, and daily safety checks (fluids, tracks, attachments).
  • Identify and report mechanical issues promptly to supervision.
  • Work closely with foremen, surveyors, and crew members to coordinate grading operations and maintain production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site, includingfinal trimming, grading touch-ups, and debris removal.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of experience operating skid steer equipment incivil/site development or road construction.
  • Strong experience withrough and finish grading techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpretplans, grade stakes, and survey controls.
  • Knowledge ofSouth Florida site conditions (drainage, compaction, sandy soils) is a plus (recommended based on regional practices).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in safe operation of skid steer with various attachments (bucket, grading blade, forks, broom).
  • Strong understanding ofgrading, elevations, and drainage principles.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to personnel, utilities, and other equipment safely.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow direction from supervisors.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus onquality finish work.
  • Willingness to assist with general labor tasks as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors inheat, humidity, and varying weather conditions typical of South Florida.
  • Capable of lifting 40–50 lbs and performing physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and climbing.
  • Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.

Safety Requirements

  • Adhere strictly toOSHA and company safety standards.
  • Conduct dailypre-operation inspections and hazard awareness checks.
  • Maintain asafety-first mindset in all operations and interactions on the jobsite.

Work Environment

  • Active construction sites includeresidential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Frequent interaction with grading crews, paving crews, and concrete teams.
  • May require overtime, weekends, or travel depending on project schedules
