Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to provide on-site leadership for commercial construction projects from initial mobilization through final turnover.

This individual will have overall responsibility for daily field operations, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, scheduling, logistics, and successful execution of the project. The Senior Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager and project team to keep construction moving safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project schedule and contract documents.

The ideal candidate is a proven field leader who understands how to organize complex projects, manage subcontractors, anticipate challenges, and drive projects through successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for day-to-day construction activities on the jobsite.

  • Manage subcontractors, field personnel, site logistics, sequencing, and daily project operations.

  • Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and professional jobsite.

  • Enforce project safety requirements and ensure subcontractors comply with established safety procedures.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices.

  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager to develop, maintain, and execute the overall construction schedule.

  • Develop short-term look-ahead schedules and communicate upcoming activities, Client requirements, deliveries, and critical milestones.

  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to maintain proper sequencing and prevent scheduling conflicts.

  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, RFIs, submittals, and other project documentation to ensure work is being installed correctly.

  • Monitor workmanship and maintain high standards for quality throughout construction.

  • Identify potential field conflicts, schedule issues, or scope gaps early and work with the project team to develop solutions.

  • Understand subcontractor scopes and assist in preventing unnecessary change orders and project delays.

  • Lead regular subcontractor coordination and field meetings.

  • Maintain accurate daily reports documenting Client, subcontractor activities, deliveries, site conditions, inspections, and project progress.

  • Coordinate temporary facilities, utilities, site access, material staging, equipment, and overall jobsite logistics.

  • Identify long-lead materials and equipment and communicate procurement concerns to the project team.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Coordinate inspections and ensure required corrections are completed promptly.

  • Manage punch-list activities and drive the project through final completion and owner acceptance.

  • Assist with project closeout, commissioning, turnover documentation, and final inspections.

  • Mentor Assistant Superintendents and other field personnel while promoting accountability and professional development.

  • Take ownership of field-related issues and provide practical solutions that protect safety, schedule, quality, and project profitability.

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably with a commercial general contractor or construction manager.

  • Several years of direct experience as a Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, or lead field construction professional.

  • Proven experience independently managing commercial construction projects or major portions of complex projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, building systems, means and methods, and industry best practices.

  • Experience with commercial interiors, tenant renovations, occupied facilities, fast-track projects, phased construction, and/or weekend work is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors and trades simultaneously.

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and jobsite risk management.

  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred but not required for candidates with substantial relevant field experience.

  • Experience with construction technology and project-management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and related systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet demanding project schedules.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with field personnel, subcontractors, project executives, owners, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify potential issues before they affect the project.

  • Ability to adapt to changing project conditions, schedules, technology, construction methods, and client requirements.

  • Professional, dependable, and accountable leadership style.

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while working in an active construction environment.

  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds when necessary.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a hands-on commercial construction leader who takes ownership of the jobsite and understands that successful projects require more than simply following a schedule.

We are looking for someone who can anticipate problems, communicate expectations clearly, hold subcontractors accountable, maintain strong relationships, and consistently drive the project forward.

This individual should be comfortable leading demanding commercial projects while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, schedule, organization, communication, and client satisfaction.
