Senior Substation Project Engineer

Location: West Sacramento, CA

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid β€” 2 days in office/week (West Sacramento, Fresno, or Oakland)

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 4 months
  • Pay Rate: $90.00–$95.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Days (1st Shift)
  • Travel Requirements: 20% travel; area includes all of PG&E territory (almost to Oregon, down to Santa Barbara, and almost to Tahoe)

Job Summary

The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering β€” including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance, and electric investment planning β€” are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining. This is asenior-level engineer job that requires mastery of the journey engineer job duties and is responsible for leading engineering and design of complex projects. Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices to resolve complex problems with only general direction. Provides leadership, coaching, technical direction, knowledge transfer, and assistance to technical employees and teams. Additional responsibilities beyond the Project Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following: deliver presentations, lead team meetings, interpret industry practices and codes. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the client's service territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage large complex projects and perform engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs.
  • Lead, coach, direct, and assist technical employees and teams on technical issues. May act as an engineering mentor.
  • Assist in finalizing contract project specification and technical evaluation of contract project bids.
  • Provide support to other departments in land, permitting, and legal issues.
  • Resolves problems of complex scope. Assignments may provide an opportunity for creative or non-standard approaches. Under general direction, independently plans work to meet assigned general objectives. Work may be reviewed upon completion; solution may provide an opportunity for creative/non-standard approaches.
  • External contacts are with contractors, vendors, and local public agencies with ministerial authority. Internal contacts are with clients, project team members, and company management. May provide technical direction to less experienced team members. Exchanges information and solves problems with others outside the team.

Required Experience

  • 8 years of cumulative experience in electrical engineering and design

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience in multiple large-scale, large-budget electric substation projects
  • Experience in substation engineering
  • Skilled in project management

Education Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the U.S., or the equivalent from outside the U.S. (required)
  • Current California PE license (desired)

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • PPE required; vendor-provided (specific list to be provided by hiring team)
  • 20% travel within PG&E territory (spanning northern and central California)
