Senior Software Engineer / Staff Software Engineer - Accommodation

Your main duties in flying with us

• Design, build and evolve services based on SOLID principles and Clean Code, with a focus on reliability, data consistency and performance
• Own services end to end, including design, delivery, observability, on-call and incident follow-up
• Design APIs that serve our partner-facing apps, and benchmark and improve their performance and scalability
• Make sound trade-offs on schema design, indexing, caching and event flows for high-volume rate, availability and inventory updates
• Raise code quality through rigorous code reviews, testing standards (unit, integration, contract) and continuous refactoring
• Write and maintain technical documentation, design docs and runbooks
• Mentor engineers and contribute to a healthy, collaborative engineering culture
• Work closely with Product, QA, Data and partner-facing teams to translate business needs into technical solutions

• Lead the technical design and delivery of features and services within the team
• Break down complex problems into well-scoped, deliverable work and guide other engineers through execution
• Proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks and reliability risks in owned services, and drive fixes
• Mentor Software Engineer I/II through pairing, reviews and design feedback

• Set the technical direction and architecture for the domain, aligned with the wider Accommodation platform
• Lead cross-team designs and integrations with adjacent systems (e.g. pricing, inventory, order and partner integrations)
• Author and review RFCs and architecture proposals, and drive alignment across teams and stakeholders
• Define and drive a multi-quarter technical roadmap, including major refactors, rewrites and migrations
• Establish engineering standards and practices (testing, observability, release, design review) that scale across teams
• Represent engineering in cross-functional planning, clearly communicating technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Mandatory belongings that you must prepare

• 6-8+ years of experience in backend development, with significant time designing distributed systems at scale
• Bachelor degree or equivalent, preferably in Computer Science/Information Technology
• Deep experience with RDBMS and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design, indexing strategy, query optimization and data consistency trade-offs
• Hands-on experience with caching (Redis, Memcached) and Elasticsearch
• Production experience with Event-Driven Architecture such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, including handling idempotency, ordering and retries
• Solid experience with CI/CD, TDD, Git Flow, and refactoring or rewriting legacy systems
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and Linux
• Proficient in log analysis, debugging and production troubleshooting using observability tools (logs, metrics, tracing)
• Strong sense of prioritization and product ownership
• Strong critical thinking, excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset; comfortable working across cross-functional teams and communicating technical trade-offs
• Ability to influence without authority and build alignment across engineering, product and business stakeholders
• Comfortable leveraging AI tools for coding, debugging, design and documentation to boost engineering velocity, and able to guide others in using them responsibly

• Proven track record of leading architecture decisions spanning multiple teams or services
• Experience driving large-scale migrations, re-architectures or platform initiatives to completion
• Experience in travel, marketplace or partner-facing B2B platforms is a plus
