Job Description

Cogwheel Analytics builds a digital marketing analytics and reporting platform for the hospitality industry. We aggregate data from Google Ads, GA4, Meta, OTA platforms, and other channels into clear, actionable dashboards that help hotels understand and grow their digital performance.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to own high-risk, high-impact backend work across our platform: schema migrations, async orchestration, cross-module refactors, third-party integrations, and architecture for new initiatives. You will write design docs with real alternatives considered, review code, mentor engineers, and be a technical voice in sprint planning and incident response. This role is for someone who surfaces risk early, cuts scope before cutting quality, and finishes what they start.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & High-Risk Delivery

• Design and deliver high-risk work: schema changes and backfills, async and scheduled job orchestration with Celery, cross-module refactors, and third-party integration overhauls.
• Author design docs for new initiatives covering system impact, data and async concerns, alternatives considered, and rollback strategy.
• Design and evolve FastAPI services and PostgreSQL schemas under live production load.

Production Readiness & Incident Response

• Ensure production readiness before every release: retry safety, idempotency, monitoring, and a documented rollback plan.
• Break client-reported incidents down into root-cause bug tasks and drive them to resolution.
• Keep data collection jobs for Google Ads, GA4, Meta, and OTA platforms reliable as those APIs change.

Technical Leadership

• Review PRs for correctness, performance, migration safety, and logging coverage.
• Mentor engineers through code review and pairing.
• Record decisions and tradeoffs so the team does not re-litigate solved problems.
• Contribute to sprint planning with realistic estimates and early risk flags.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production ownership of a non-trivial system.
• Deep Python expertise, with production experience in FastAPI or a comparable framework.
• Strong SQLAlchemy and PostgreSQL skills, including query performance, indexing, and migration strategy (Alembic or equivalent).
• Strong experience with Celery or equivalent distributed task systems: retries, idempotency, concurrency control, and failure handling.
• Experience designing and evolving relational schemas under live production load.
• A track record of writing design documents and making architecture decisions with explicit tradeoffs.
• Strong code review skills and the judgment to know when to push back.
• Clear written communication in English.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with marketing or analytics data pipelines (Google Ads, GA4, Meta, OTA platforms).
• AWS infrastructure experience and cost awareness.
• Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with DORA metrics, release gates, or similar delivery discipline.
• Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code in a professional workflow.
• Working familiarity with Angular, enough to review API contracts and make occasional frontend changes.
• Prior experience as a lead or mentor on a small team.
