FinWise Bank is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to establish and scale quality engineering practices across the FinTech Connect API, the Nexus API, and the Tallied Credit Card Application. This role will design and implement the automation frameworks, CI/CD quality gates, test planning practices, release-readiness reporting, and AI-assisted testing capabilities needed to support reliable delivery across critical financial technology platforms.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical quality engineer who thinks like a developer, understands complex API and integration ecosystems, and can build durable test infrastructure rather than relying primarily on manual validation. This person will partner closely with software engineering, DevOps, product, architecture, and business stakeholders to improve release confidence, reduce production risk, and accelerate delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain reusable API, integration, regression, smoke, contract, and end-to-end test automation frameworks for FinTech Connect, Nexus, and Tallied.
  • Define and implement CI/CD quality gates for pull requests, merges, release candidates, and production readiness.
  • Create formal test plans for major releases, partner integrations, regulatory-impacting workflows, and credit card application changes.
  • Develop automated tests for REST APIs, backend services, integration workflows, data validation, authorization logic, account servicing, transaction flows, and partner-facing interfaces.
  • Establish contract testing, mocking, stubbing, and service virtualization practices for external providers, partner integrations, and dependent systems.
  • Implement load, performance, resiliency, negative-path, and failure-mode testing for high-volume API and credit card workflows.
  • Use AI-assisted tooling to generate test scenarios, expand edge-case coverage, accelerate regression suite creation, and identify gaps in requirements or acceptance criteria.
  • Use AI-assisted analysis to validate automated test results, summarize failures, detect anomalies, and distinguish product defects from test data, environment, dependency, or automation issues.
  • Build release-readiness dashboards and quality metrics covering regression health, defect trends, coverage, performance, test reliability, and release risk.
  • Partner with developers, product owners, DevOps engineers, and architects to define testable requirements, improve observability, and shift quality practices earlier in the delivery lifecycle.
  • Support after-hours post-release smoke testing for critical production workflows when needed.
  • Mentor QA engineers, software engineers, and delivery teams on automation standards, testability, AI-enabled quality practices, and quality-first engineering habits.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software quality engineering, SDET, test automation, or related software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks for APIs, backend services, and integration workflows.
  • Hands-on programming or scripting experience with one or more modern languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C#, Python, or similar.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, authentication and authorization patterns, service dependencies, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with automated regression testing, smoke testing, integration testing, contract testing, and release validation.
  • Practical experience with test data management, environment readiness, defect triage, and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and communicate quality risks clearly.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and systems-thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fintech, banking, payments, lending, credit card, or other regulated financial services environments.
  • Experience testing microservices, event-driven architectures, message broker-based systems, message queues, or third-party integration ecosystems.
  • Experience with tools and concepts such as Postman, Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Pact, WireMock, JMeter, k6, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenAPI/Swagger, Kafka, SQL, or cloud-native testing practices.
  • Experience using AI or LLM-assisted tools to generate tests, review code, analyze failures, or improve test coverage.
  • Experience creating release-readiness dashboards, quality scorecards, or executive-level reporting on software quality and release risk.
  • Understanding of compliance-sensitive testing practices, secure test data usage, audit evidence, and production-adjacent validation.

Success Measures

  • Reusable automation framework established and adopted across priority FinTech Connect, Nexus, and Tallied workflows.
  • Automated regression and smoke test coverage available for critical API, integration, and credit card application paths.
  • CI/CD quality gates implemented for high-risk changes and release candidates.
  • Formal test plan template and release-readiness reporting adopted by delivery teams.
  • Improved visibility into regression health, defect trends, performance risk, and release confidence.
  • Reduced reliance on manual regression testing and faster identification of high-impact defects.

Working Expectations

This is a senior, hands-on technical role with broad ownership of quality infrastructure. The SDET will be expected to work from the Murray, Utah headquarters, operate independently, influence engineering practices across teams, balance tactical delivery needs with long-term automation strategy, and participate in critical release validation activities as needed.
