Job Title:Senior Services Coordinator (Out & About Program)

Location: Penticton 

Employment Status: Regular Full-Time 

Hours: 30 hours/week

Closing Date: October 16, 2026


Job Summary

The Out & About Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering community-based recreational, educational, and social outings for older adults. The position supports healthy aging by creating opportunities for social engagement, physical activity, mental stimulation, meaningful relationships, and community participation.

The Coordinator develops and implements inclusive and accessible outings that reduce social isolation and enhance quality of life for older adults. Working closely with participants, volunteers, community organizations, businesses, and service providers, the coordinator ensures every outing is safe, enjoyable, and responsive to participant needs. The coordinator is responsible for participant support, program planning, transportation coordination, volunteer engagement, community partnerships, evaluation, and program administration. Through a participant-centered approach, the coordinator helps older adults maintain independence, dignity, social connections, and active involvement within their community.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver a diverse schedule of social, recreational, educational, cultural, and community outings for older adults, and occasionally transport participants from other OneSky programs.
  • Research, evaluate, and select destinations, activities, and community events based on participant interests, accessibility, affordability, and safety considerations.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and foster an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment.
  • Maintain an active participant registration process and ensure all emergency contact information and participant records are current.
  • Assess participant needs related to mobility, accessibility, health considerations, and social participation.
  • Monitor participant well-being during outings and respond appropriately to concerns or changing circumstances.
  • Support participants in building social connections and accessing opportunities that promote healthy aging and community engagement.
  • Recruit, orient, train, and support volunteers participating in the program.
  • Foster positive volunteer experiences through mentorship, recognition, and ongoing communication.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local businesses, recreation facilities, restaurants, community organizations, municipal departments, health providers, and social service agencies.
  • Support participants and community during emergency response efforts undertaken by the organization, such as evacuations, fires, and extreme heat. 
  • Represent the organization professionally at community meetings, networking opportunities, and partnership development activities.
  • Operate and maintain the program vehicle in accordance with organizational policies and transportation regulations.
  • Complete vehicle inspections, travel logs, maintenance reporting, fueling, and cleanliness requirements.
  • Ensure participant safety during transportation, boarding, unloading, and throughout all program activities.
  • Develop pick-up and drop-off schedules and routes that prioritize participant safety and accessibility.
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments before and during outings and adapt activities as required due to weather, road conditions, wildfire smoke, emergencies, or participant needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures and respond effectively to incidents or emergencies.
  • Complete incident reports and communicate safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, program activities, statistics, evaluations, and reports.
  • Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, grant reporting, and program outcome measurement as required.
  • Participate in program evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete required documentation and administrative duties in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities, community networks, and training related to healthy aging, recreation programming, transportation safety, and community engagement.


Qualifications

  • Knowledge of community resources, recreational opportunities, and services that support healthy aging and social inclusion.
  • Experience working with older adults and diverse populations from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience coordinating community-based programs, recreation services, or social programs.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driver's abstract. Valid Class 4 license required or ability to obtain within one month of hire date.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent related experience in recreation programming, community services, seniors' services, volunteer coordination, or a related field.

  • Professional and calm response to emergencies, incidents, and unexpected situations.
  • Strong administrative skills, including documentation, record management, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database management systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in all aspects of work.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, quality improvement, and organizational values.
