ECC to S/4HANA Conversion Project
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior SAP MM Functional Consultant to join our ECC to S/4HANA conversion project, contributing from the discovery phase through hypercare. The ideal candidate will possess proven S/4HANA migration experience and a deep understanding of MM simplifications introduced in S/4HANA, including mandatory Material Ledger activation, inventory management on HANA, and MRP streamlining. This role requires the ability to lead fit-gap workshops, drive configuration decisions, manage data migration activities, and collaborate across functional and technical teams to deliver a successful conversion.
Project Responsibilities
Migration & Conversion
- Lead fit-gap analysis for MM processes; identify impacted simplification items (material ledger mandatory activation, simplification of MRP, inventory management on HANA, elimination of classic purchasing info record screen changes, changes to batch management)
- Evaluate conversion implications for MM: open purchase orders, scheduling agreements, contracts, and inventory balances migration
- Map and validate MM configuration objects: material types, purchasing org/group structures, valuation classes, account determination, info records, source lists, and quota arrangements
- Support material master and vendor master data migration using SAP Migration Cockpit (LTMC/LTMOM) or LSMW; validate data quality and completeness pre- and post-migration
- Review and resolve SPDD/SPAU items related to MM customizations
- Identify MM custom enhancements (user exits, BADIs, message conditions) requiring S/4HANA compatibility review
Design & Configuration
- Configure S/4HANA MM including purchasing (PR/PO/contracts/scheduling agreements), inventory management, goods movements, and invoice verification (MIRO/Logistics Invoice Verification)
- Configure Material Ledger and Actual Costing as required by S/4HANA mandatory activation; coordinate with FI/CO on valuation impacts
- Design integration with FI/CO (GR/IR clearing, automatic account determination), WM/EWM, QM (inspection lots on GR), and PP (planned orders, BOM, work centers)
- Develop functional specifications for RICEFW objects (custom reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms) needed in S/4HANA environment
Testing & Cutover
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and regression test scripts for MM processes (procure-to-pay, inventory, invoice verification)
- Support UAT coordination; triage and resolve defects
- Define MM cutover tasks: open PO migration, inventory balance loads, info record and source list loads; participate in mock cutovers and go/no-go decisions
- Support hypercare stabilization post go-live
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
- Engage procurement, warehouse, and inventory business stakeholders; facilitate fit-gap workshops and secure design decisions
- Produce and maintain project documentation: configuration workbooks, functional specs, test scripts, training materials
- Report risks and recommendations to project leadership and steering committees
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 7+ years hands-on SAP MM functional consulting experience
- Minimum 2 full-lifecycle ECC to S/4HANA conversion projects in a lead MM role
- Deep knowledge of S/4HANA MM simplifications, including mandatory Material Ledger activation, changes to inventory management on HANA, and MRP simplifications
- Experience with material master and vendor master data migration using SAP Migration Cockpit, LTMC/LTMOM, or LSMW
- Hands-on experience configuring account determination (OBYC), valuation, and split valuation in S/4HANA
- Strong understanding of procure-to-pay process integration with FI/CO and WM/EWM
- Experience with SAP Activate methodology
- Proficiency writing functional specifications and collaborating with ABAP developers on RICEFW objects
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage competing project priorities
- Strong ownership bias and ability to meet milestone deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement (current version preferred)
- Experience with SAP Ariba integration or SAP Central Procurement
- Familiarity with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) in an S/4HANA context
- Experience with SAP SRM or transition to S/4HANA sourcing capabilities
- Prior consulting experience in a project-based delivery model with a system integrator
