Join our Reliability Science engineering organization as a Senior Principal Engineer III and play a key role in building exceptionally reliable, testable and safe products. You'll apply your deep engineering knowledge to investigate and optimize the performance of digital and analog electronics, power supplies, and complex electronic systems. Key responsibilities in this role include:
- Strengthening technical competencies within the Reliability Sciences engineering organization through the development, capture and curation of knowledge supporting the domains of Reliability Sciences (Reliability, Safety, Maintainability, BIT/Testability)
- Establish, mature, and support knowledge venues which prioritize and promote the transfer of knowledge with an emphasis on relevant topics, efficient methods, and durable outcomes
- Develop and lead strategic initiatives (ex: MBSE, AI enablers) which will serve to drive continuous improvement by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of Reliability Sciences tools and processes
- Develop and implement policies, with leadership concurrence, to improve the standardization and rigor of processes and data sources within the Reliability Sciences organization
- Actively participate in system architecture design and optimization activities, trades and analyses as a Reliability Sciences subject matterexpert.
- Understand technical requirements, missions, use cases, and constraints
- Define the technical solution, viability, and adequacy relative to your areas of supportability expertise
- Ensure system design is reliable, safer, maintainable, supportable, and testable
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, coach and grow emerging Built-in Test (BIT), Reliability and/or Safety engineers based on your domain expertise. Establish goals and standards of performance. Lead and grow a best-in-class team that delivers excellent results
- Strategic Alignment & Planning: Partner with other cross functional peers, Reliability Sciences leaders and team members, and product line area leaders to ensure alignment with business objectives and strategy
- Design Influence: Influence outcome of design reviews and provide constructive inputs on engineering architecture and designs including engineering models, test plans, and other development artifacts and facilitate risk assessments
- Understand industry trends and best practices in reliability, maintainability, testability, BIT and/or safety development to ensure BAE Systems develops the capabilities required to provide technical discriminators and to maintain technical differentiators that are cost effective
- Improve the value status of the Reliability Sciences function both internally and external to the greater engineering disciplines
- Become an integral part of the capture teams providing input on overall strategy and support to specific pursuits
- Provide strategic guidance on competitive bid development, ensuring proposals are executable, financially competitive, and contribute to business growth
- Promote best practices and knowledge sharing across the ECS business area and beyond
- Participate in IRADs and other Reliability Sciences funded initiatives as required
Required Skills and Education
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical field with 12+ years of related work experience in the Reliability Sciences domain areas
- Demonstrated ability to provide expert technical guidance and oversight for Reliability Science and Product Support activities aligned with your domain expertise
- Track record of successful leadership with wide technical scope and breadth on a variety of substantial programs
- Track record of being a well-known and trusted expert by senior level leadership and often is called upon to independently solve complex technical problems. Solutions offered have considered impacts including technical, cost, and schedule elements. Â
- Demonstrated technical expertise of complex electronic systems supporting the product development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, and system level integration and testing
- Demonstrated expertise in all phases of the system lifecycle, including development, deployment, and sustained production, with a focus on delivering reliable, maintainable, testable and safe solutions
- Broad understanding of the Reliability Sciences domain areas
- Proven systems engineering expertise within the Reliability Sciences domain areas, supporting requirements management, change control, and verification & validation
- In-depth understanding of the requirements development process in response to customer operational and maintenance/sustainment needs
- Experienced in understanding and generating CONOPS   
- Experienced in conducting trade studies, building and delivering technical presentations, and related activities
- Experienced developing viable concept solutions, identifying and tracking technical risks, and leading technical Reliability Sciences teams in your domain expertiseÂ
- Experienced in developing technical and cost volume solutions for proposals
- Experienced with program execution across a variety of customer sets
- Possess strong critical thinking skills
- Experienced performing as Independent Assessor during Design Reviews and Peer Reviews
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to senior leadership and collaborateeffectively with diverse engineering discipline representatives
- Demonstrated teamwork and delegating abilities
- Experienced participating in the hiring process
- Proven written and oral communication skills, including reporting and presentation skills
Preferred Skills and Education
- Business acumen, with the ability to understand and communicate in the language of the business
- Knowledge of and experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with tools such as Magic Draw and its application to reliability, maintainability, testability, BIT, safety and human factors in systems development
- Cost Account Management / Earned Value reporting skills
