The Senior Power Systems Engineer will lead the design, modelling, simulation, and execution of extra-high, high-, medium-, and low-voltage (EHV/HV/MV/LV) electrical power systems. This role ensures the safety, reliability, efficiency, and code compliance of power networks. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in power system dynamics, independently performs complex analytical studies, and collaborates cross-functionally to deliver large-scale energy and industrial projects.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
System Modelling & Analysis: Conduct and manage critical power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit calculations, protective device coordination, arc-flash hazard evaluation, harmonic analysis, transient stability, motor starting/acceleration, cable thermal analysis, earthing/grounding system design, insulation coordination, and grid compliance studies for Extra High Voltage, High Voltage, Medium Voltage & Low Voltage power systems.Â
Engineering & Design: Lead the design and integration of electrical power distribution systems, substations, switchgear, generators, transformers, and renewable energy assets such as solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid systems.Â
Project Leadership: Oversee electrical engineering projects from conceptual design through commissioning. Manage project timelines, resource allocation, budgeting, and deliverables with a high degree of independence.Â
Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all system designs meet applicable national and international electrical standards and safety codes, including IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, ANSI, and CSA. Apply standards such as IEC 60909, IEEE 1584, IEEE 519, and IEC 61850 where relevant.Â
Client & Vendor Interaction: Act as a technical consultant and liaison for clients. Evaluate technical specifications, prepare detailed engineering proposals, and coordinate with equipment vendors.Â
Mentorship: Supervise, train, and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level power engineers. Review and validate their simulation models and technical reports.Â
Safety Leadership: Promote and enforce safety in design, arc-flash risk mitigation, HV switching, LOTO, and commissioning activities.Â
Required QualificationsÂ
Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or a related discipline.Â
Experience: Minimum 8–10+ years of proven engineering experience in power system design, analysis, and operation. Experience in utility, renewable energy, industrial, or EPC environments is preferred.Â
Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on expertise with power simulation software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS Sincal, or CYME. Familiarity with PSCAD, EMTP, MATLAB/Simulink, SKM, EasyPower, or PowerWorld is a plus.Â
Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license, Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent regional professional engineering registration is strongly preferred. If not currently licensed, ability to obtain licensure within a defined period may be required.Â
Core Competencies & Soft SkillsÂ
Analytical Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex electrical failure modes, power quality issues, and grid connection complications.Â
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate intricate technical findings, risk assessments, and design logic to non-technical stakeholders and clients.Â
Industry Domain Knowledge: Solid grasp of modern grid complexities, including grid-forming and grid-following converters/inverters, high-voltage systems, inverter-based resources, weak grid conditions, grid code compliance, and primary/secondary design. Primary design includes substations, switchgear, and transformers; secondary design includes protection, control, SCADA, and metering.Â
