Job Overview: Theoris is seeking an experienced PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) Operational Integration Consultant to support the deployment, integration, and operational use of synchrophasor technologies in an RTO control room environment. In this role, the consultant will define and implement operational requirements, improve real-time situational awareness, and advise operations teams on using PMU data effectively for grid stability monitoring, oscillation detection, and disturbance response.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Integration and Use Cases
- Integrate PMU and synchrophasor data into control room operator workflows.
- Define and implement operational requirements and use cases.
- Ensure PMU capabilities provide actionable, reliable operational value.
- Support the development of control room visualizations, dashboards, and alarm strategies.
- Enhance real-time situational awareness for grid operations.
- Ensure alignment with NERC IBR stability standards and Large Load Reliability guidelines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations engineering, EMS/SCADA, OT/IT, and reliability engineering teams.
- Translate technical PMU analytics into operator procedures, training, and guidance.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Domain Knowledge
- 10+ years of experience with PMU deployment and integration in utility, ISO/RTO, or grid operator environments.
- Deep understanding of grid dynamics.
- Knowledge of NERC IBR standards and Large Load Reliability guidelines.
- Strong experience with real-time PMU applications, including oscillation detection, disturbance identification, event analysis, dynamic system behavior monitoring, operational requirements development, operator use cases, alarm thresholds, and control room visualization concepts.
- Working knowledge of IEEE C37.118 protocols.
- Experience with PMU data quality assessment.
- Experience configuring PDCs (Phasor Data Concentrators).
- Understanding of synchrophasor data streaming performance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and operational teams.
