About the position
The Safe Work Senior Specialist is the site’s technical authority for machine safety, LOTO program integrity, safe work operations, and high-risk project oversight. This role ensures all machinery, processes, and contractor activities comply with OSHA 1910, ANSI B11 series, NFPA, and applicable state regulations. The specialist leads the development, review, and continuous improvement of LOTO procedures, machine guarding, new equipment commissioning, and contractor safety management, while supporting LMSS and safe work initiatives across the plant.
Responsibilities are:
- Function as a lead advocate for TP’s “Safety Always” culture and to actively support and live safety excellence
- Execute the company’s objectives and strategies related to EHS to ensure full compliance
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program Ownership:
- Develop, review, and approve machine-specific LOTO procedures in accordance with OSHA 1910.147 and ANSI Z244.1
- Lead the annual LOTO procedure review cycle, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and field validation
- Conduct LOTO field audits, authorized employee evaluations, and corrective action follow-up
- Maintain the LOTO procedure database, approval codes, and revision control
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and guidance for complex energy control scenarios
Machine Guarding & Safe Machine Compliance:
- Evaluate machine guarding for compliance with OSHA 1910 Subpart O, ANSI B11, ISO 13857, and state requirements
- Conduct machine risk assessments (SRA/Task Based RA) and recommend engineered controls.
- Partner with Engineering and Maintenance to ensure guarding designs meet required performance levels (PLr)
- Lead investigations of machine related near misses, incidents, or safeguarding failures
- Approve modifications, upgrades, or bypass requests related to machine safety systems
New Machine Commissioning & Change Management:
- Serve as EHS lead for new machine installation, commissioning, and startup
- Review OEM safety documentation, guarding packages, and CE/ANSI compliance
- Validate safety circuits, interlocks, emergency stops, and risk reduction measures before release to production
- Participate in FAT/SAT, pre startup safety reviews (PSSR), and change management processes
- Ensure contractors and OEM technicians follow site safe work expectations during installation
Contractor/Construction Safety & High Risk Work Oversight:
- Manage contractor onboarding, training, and compliance with site safe work rules
- Oversee high risk permits including:
- Hot Work
- Confined Space
- Line Break / Zero Energy Verification
- Working at Heights
- Critical Lifts
- Conduct field audits of contractor activities and enforce corrective actions
- Support project managers in planning safe execution of capital and maintenance projects
Safe Work Operations:
- Develop standard work, visual controls, and error-proofing for safe operations
- Facilitate job safety analyses (JSAs), SOP reviews, and ergonomic risk assessments
- Coach supervisors and operators on safe work practices and hazard recognition
Training, Communication & Technical Leadership:
- Deliver training for LOTO Authorized Employees, Affected Employees, and machine safety topics
- Provide technical guidance to Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Contractors
- Serve as subject matter expert during audits (OSHA, ISO 45001)
- Lead and drive the plant safety committees and hold participants accountable for results
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Requirements are:
Education:Â
- (Required) bachelor's degree
- (Preferred) occupational safety and health, environmental safety and health, or advanced degree in a related field
Experience:Â
- (Required) 3+ years of related experience as an EHS Professional in a manufacturing environment
Language:Â
- (Required) good command of written and spoken English
Skills & Knowledge:
- Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
- Chemistry - Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to frequently move about the manufacturing plant campus, general office environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Must be able to position self to file documents including the top and bottom drawers of file cabinets
- Must be able to occasionally move office equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
