Senior/Lead Software Test Automation Engineer - Java

We are looking for aSenior Software Engineer in Test with deep, hands-on expertise in Java test automation. In this role, you will own quality engineering for a product or stream. You will define the test strategy, build and evolve automation frameworks, and act as the go-to person for quality decisions within the team and towards the client.

Responsibilities

• Test Strategy & Ownership: Define and own the test approach, covering scope, risks, test levels, test data, and quality gates. Justify your decisions to stakeholders
• Framework Architecture: Design, build, and evolve Java-based test automation frameworks for UI, API, and integration testing, making deliberate decisions on structure, scalability, and maintainability
• Test Automation & Quality: Implement robust UI and API test suites using Playwright, Selenium/Selenide, and REST Assured, and keep them stable, fast, and trustworthy
• Integration & E2E Testing: Plan and execute system integration and end-to-end testing across distributed systems, third-party services, and message brokers
• CI/CD Integration: Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and define meaningful quality gates
• AI-Assisted Engineering: Use GenAI tools in your daily work to accelerate test design and automation development, and critically review AI-generated test code
• Collaboration & Leadership: Challenge requirements early, mentor QA engineers, review automation code, and set engineering standards for the team

Requirements

• Experience: 5+ years of hands-on test automation experience, including at least 3 years with Java as your primary automation language
• Framework Design: Proven experience designing and building test automation frameworks from scratch, beyond extending existing ones. You should be able to explain the architectural decisions and trade-offs behind them
• Advanced Java: Strong command of Java, including OOP, design patterns applied to test code, Maven or Gradle, and JUnit 5 or TestNG
• UI & API Automation: Production experience with Playwright and/or Selenium/Selenide, and with REST API test automation
• Test Strategy: Experience owning the test strategy for a product or release, not only executing it
• DevOps & CI/CD: Advanced hands-on experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines, including parallel and containerized execution
• SQL: Confident use of SQL for test data preparation and backend verification
• GenAI in Testing: Practical, daily use of GenAI tools for test automation work
• Soft Skills: Strong ownership, the ability to work independently and defend technical decisions, and excellent communication skills for client collaboration. English at B2 level or higher

Nice to have

• Experience with Groovy/Spock, Kotlin, TypeScript, or C#
• Experience testing event-driven systems and message brokers, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Performance testing experience, for example with JMeter, Gatling, or k6
• Experience mentoring or leading QA engineers across multiple teams
• Experience with agentic workflows in testing
• ISTQB certification
