Our client, a well-established and highly regarded Ontario law firm, is seeking aSenior Municipal Lawyer to join its growing practice. The firm is recognized for its strength in municipal, land development, and expropriation law, advising a sophisticated mix of public and private sector clients.
This is an opportunity to step into amature, high-quality practice with strong existing workflows, while still having the runway to shape and grow your own book and profile within the space.
About the Role
You will act as a key contributor to the firm's municipal and land development group, advising on a broad range of planning, regulatory, and expropriation matters. The role offers a mix of advisory, advocacy, and client-facing work, with the expectation of handling files with a high degree of autonomy.
- Advise onmunicipal law, land use planning, and development matters
- Represent clients inexpropriation proceedings, including compensation-related disputes
- Navigatezoning by-laws, development approvals, and regulatory frameworks
- Handlemunicipal enforcement and prosecution matters
- Provide guidance onenvironmental and administrative law issues
- Manage files end-to-end, including strategy, execution, and client communication
- Appear before relevant tribunals and courts
- Support and contribute toclient development initiatives
- Base Salary: $150,000+, depending on experience
- Bonus: Performance-based bonus tied to billings and/or originations
- 7+ years of experience inmunicipal, land use planning, or expropriation law
- Strong understanding of Ontario's municipal and planning regime
- Proven ability torun files independently
- Experience appearing before tribunals and/or courts
- Practical, solutions-oriented approach to client service
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Interest in contributing to acollaborative and growing practice
