Job Details:

Job Title: Lead Software Engineer – Java / AWS / Spring Boot/Microservices
Location: Remote but local to Chicago, IL (Local only)
Contract Duration: 13 Months (High probability of extension)

Responsibilities:

This is more of a backend position and will involve hands-on implementation, design, and development. The most important skills are Java, AWS, Spring Boot, Microservices, and OpenSearch.

Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

Preferred Education:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

Required Skills for the Java Lead Engineer:
  • 15+ years engineering enterprise Java platforms with hands-on mastery in modern Java (17/21), Spring Boot 3.x, and distributed cloud microservices.
  • 2+ years driving end-to-end technical direction and direct delivery ownership for teams of engineers within enterprise-scale environments.
  • Production-proven architecture of high-throughput AWS workloads utilizing ECS/Fargate, ALB, RDS, Secrets Manager, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Cloud Formation).
  • Hands-on implementation of enterprise search and indexing architectures using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch integrated into distributed pipelines.
  • Demonstrated track record implementing event-driven backbones (Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS) and API performance optimization under high-load conditions.
  • Experience embedding modern DevOps practices, automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), observability (CloudWatch/OpenTelemetry), and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
