Job Title: Senior Java Backend Engineer
Location: Jersey City, NJ (Onsite)
Duration: Contract
Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Engineer with strong expertise in building and supporting cloud-native backend platforms. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer who can independently design, develop, deploy, and manage backend services using Kotlin, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, WebFlux, AWS, and Terraform. This role requires someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can quickly contribute with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend platform services and APIs.
Build cloud-native microservices using Kotlin, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Web Flux.
Deploy, configure, and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
Provision AWS resources manually through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and troubleshoot infrastructure-related issues.
Configure, deploy, and manage containerized applications on AWS ECS.
Collaborate with architecture and platform teams to ensure highly available and resilient systems.
Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
Implement best practices around observability, monitoring, logging, and operational excellence.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and production support activities.
Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills:

Comfortable in using Kotlin with Spring boot
Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and WebFlux.
Deep understanding of reactive programming concepts and microservices architecture.
Strong experience with AWS Cloud Services.
Expert-level experience in Terraform for provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure.
Hands-on experience configuring and managing AWS ECS (Elastic Container Service).
Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend platform services.
Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native application design.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Familiarity with containerization technologies and cloud deployment strategies.

Experience:

10+ years of overall software development experience.
4+ years of hands-on experience with Kotlin and modern Spring ecosystem.
Proven experience independently delivering backend and platform engineering solutions in AWS environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with event-driven architectures.
Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging platforms.
Experience with observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or Prometheus.
Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
