Senior IT Project Manager – HR AI and Automation

Location: Toronto, Ontario

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to lead artificial intelligence, automation, and technology enhancement projects supporting Human Resources. You'll manage delivery from initial planning through implementation, translating business needs into clear requirements and keeping teams aligned on scope, priorities, and deadlines.

Projects may support recruiting, talent management, learning, employee experience, workforce planning, and HR operations. This role partners closely with HR, technology, AI, data, and delivery teams to resolve issues and implement practical improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project planning and delivery for HR AI, automation, data, and technology enhancement initiatives.

• Develop and maintain project plans covering milestones, deliverables, timelines, resources, and dependencies.

• Monitor progress against scope, schedule, and quality expectations; coordinate corrective actions when needed.

• Gather, document, prioritize, and validate business and functional requirements.

• Translate requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, and actionable delivery tasks.

• Coordinate Agile activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.

• Maintain project plans, backlogs, work items, risks, issues, and decisions in Azure DevOps.

• Manage scope changes and communicate their impact on delivery.

• Coordinate stakeholders across HR, technology, AI, and data teams to resolve blockers and support timely decisions.

• Prepare regular status reports highlighting progress, upcoming milestones, risks, and decisions needed.

• Facilitate meetings and track action items, owners, and due dates through completion.

• Support testing, user acceptance, deployment readiness, implementation, and transition to ongoing operations.

• Maintain organized, traceable project documentation and recommend improvements to delivery practices.

Required Qualifications

• Experience managing projects involving AI, automation, data, analytics, or related technology solutions.

• Experience leading technology projects from initiation through implementation.

• Strong business analysis and requirements-management skills.

• Experience working with Agile methods and cross-functional delivery teams.

• Experience using Azure DevOps or a comparable platform to manage backlogs, dependencies, and delivery status.

• Ability to communicate clearly with business and technical stakeholders.

• Strong organizational, meeting facilitation, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently within a hybrid team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing HR technology projects or supporting HR business functions.

• Experience delivering HR AI, automation, or technology enhancements.

• Familiarity with Workday or other enterprise HR platforms.

• Understanding of recruiting, talent, learning, employee experience, workforce planning, or HR operations.

• Experience supporting user acceptance testing, change readiness, adoption, and transition to operations.

You'll keep projects moving against agreed milestones, ensure requirements are clear and understood, and give stakeholders consistent visibility into progress. Successful delivery includes identifying risks early, maintaining accurate project records, and ensuring new capabilities are tested and ready for use.
