Senior Energy Settlements Analyst
This job is eligible for relocation assistance to Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs Utilities' Energy Settlements group is responsible for the accurate and timely settlement and reporting of contracts with many counterparties. Our team performs work in support of our energy trading function, requiring robust knowledge of electric operations within a power market, fuels (coal, propane, diesel), and natural gas operations. As aSenior Energy Settlements Analyst, you will be responsible for complex research and analysis supporting day-ahead and real-time activity, electric and gas cost adjustment analysis, regulatory reporting, and special projects.
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Collecting, researching, and forming documentation, systems, projects, processes, and resources that inform strategic decisions
- Leveraging analytical skills to assess errors and variances to reconcile commodity transaction discrepancies with counterparties and energy markets, and manage disputes
- Remaining knowledgeable of and staying up to date on developments in regulations, laws, tariffs, and market protocols applicable to energy trading functions
- Establishing a solid understanding of energy trade capture software (e.g., Allegro, PCI, Microsoft Suite)
- Improving continuity and auditability of back office communications, procedures, and tools
- Validating settlement statements for a given operating period to include pre-settlements, operational and trading feedback, shadow settlements, meter data submittals, and meter data validation
- Preparing and reporting on key financial and operational data
- Performing trading and settlement reconciliations
- Developing and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity
- Supporting all month-end and year-end closing activities as well as year-end audit requirements as needed
Who You Are
- Demonstrated experience (typically five or more years) in accounting, energy settlements, or a comparable analytical or business research role
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is valued
- Familiarity with Southwest Power Pool Regional Transmission Organization is valued
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data
- Ability to problem-solve, exercise sound judgment, collaborate and communicate effectively and professionally across teams, and perform work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (1/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary only if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other criteria are met. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
