Job Description
Supporting the Plant Manager at the ADM Valencia site in all HSE and Process Safety matters, ensuring full compliance with local legislation, corporate standards, and regulatory requirements.Reporting line Direct: Plant Manager Dotted-line: Area Health & Safety Manager -EMEA Human Nutrition
Goals

- Supports plant leadership in establishing and sustaining a safe and environmentally responsible work culture
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in Occupational Health, Safety, and Process Safety
- Provides expertise in Health, Safety, and Environmental management and compliance
- Closely collaborates with Regional and Global HSE and Process Safety teams, as well as Engineering and CAPEX functions
- Leads and supports the implementation and continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental solutions
Main tasks
Occupational Safety
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the site Health & Safety Management System in accordance with ADM standards, local regulations, and corporate policies.
- Promote and develop a strong and sustainable safety culture focused on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention,
- Life Critical Standards (LCS), proactive risk identification, and leadership engagement.
- Provide technical and managerial guidance to site leadership and employees to ensure safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding, Life Critical Standards (LCS), and job-specific safety training.
- Conduct risk assessments, internal inspections and audits, support external audits, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Lead and support incident and near miss investigations, identify root causes, and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor, analyze, and report safety performance indicators (KPIs), including incidents, near misses, audits, and proactive safety reporting (e.g., Good Finds).
- Support line management in hazard identification, risk assessments, and safe work practices, including JSA, Permit to Work, and safe operating procedures.
- Ensure effective use of safety management systems and tools for reporting, tracking, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the Local Health and Safety Committee (Comité de Salud y Seguridad) and participate and support site safety committees and leadership teams to drive engagement and accountability
- Being the Designated Employee, representing the company, as per Spanish Law 31/1995
- Interact and coordinate with the External Safey Service the risk assessments, prevention and emergency plans and any activity required with this external service to create a safe working environment and fulfill national requirements.
- Organize and lead emergency drills.
- Establish, in cooperation with Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams, contractor safety requirements, HSE performance and contractor compliance with Corporate and Local HSE standards
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management programs in alignment with ADM and OSHA PSM principles.
- Facilitate and support process hazard analyses such as HAZOP, LOPA, What-If, and other risk assessment methodologies.
- Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes to ensure safe implementation of equipment and process changes.
- Ensure compliance with ATEX requirements and support engineering and maintenance teams in maintaining safe and compliant installations.Â

- Monitor process safety performance indicators and ensure appropriate follow-up of recommendations and improvement actions.
- Provide technical support to CAPEX projects to ensure safety is fully integrated into design, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Support auditing and validation of new or modified equipment to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.Â
Environmental ComplianceÂ
- Ensure site compliance with environmental regulations, including ICPE requirements, corporate standards, and applicable local legislation.Â
- Oversee environmental performance, including emissions to air, water discharges, waste management, and energy and resource consumption.Â
- Lead environmental monitoring programs and ensure proper reporting and regulatory compliance.Â
- Coordinate environmental audits, inspections, and interactions with regulatory authorities and external agencies.Â
- Support the integration of environmental requirements into operational and engineering activities.
- Accountable for the proper execution of assigned duties and responsibilities
- Accountable for providing accurate and reliable professional HSE advice and guidance
- Serves as the primary point of contact for local HSE regulatory authorities
- Authorized to stop equipment or operations if safety, health, or environmental risks are identified
- Supports Operations and Plant Management during emergency situations, ensuring effective coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders
- Manage and maintain ISO 14001 and 50001 systems
- Lead the Safety Pilar in local Performance Excellence program
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related technical field
- Possessing a Master Degree in Occupational Safety Specialist (or equivalent) recognized by Spanish Authorities to practice as Técnico Superior en Riesgos Laborales
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS roles within an industrial environment, preferably in food, beverage, flavors, chemical or pharmaceutical industries.
- Proven leadership experience managing or supervising EHS teams and driving safety culture transformation in complex industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards, including occupational safety, environmental compliance, chemical risk management, ATEX….
- Demonstrated experience with Process Safety Management systems, including risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, Management of Change (MOC), and incident investigations.
- Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken, with the ability to operate effectively in an international and matrix organization.
- Strong leadership and change management capabilities, with the ability to influence all levels of the organization and drive a proactive safety culture.
- Excellent analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify hazards, analyse trends, and implement effective preventive measures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, coach, and influence operational teams and senior leadership.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.Â
- Strong project and program management skills, including experience supporting CAPEX projects and organizational transformation initiatives.
- High level of rigor, accountability, and organizational skills, with a structured and results-driven approach.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrix and multicultural environment, collaborating with local, regional, and global stakeholders.Â
