Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization and settlement house serving 11,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of housing preservation, economic development, community organizing and youth and family support services programs and projects. Position:  Senior Director of Business Services 

 

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening forone (1) full-time - Senior Director of Business Services. 

 

Principal Duties: 

  • Participate in the on-going development and implementation of an economic development strategy for the Cypress Hills East New York community by incorporating input of all relevant stakeholders. 
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate the Cypress Hills Business Partners, Cypress Hills East New York Community Kitchen, and East New York Merchants Association staff. 
  • Conduct outreach and provide business counseling for merchants in the Cypress Hills and East NewYork communities. 
  • Coordinate with all local stakeholders such as the Community Board, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, and city agencies to promote the economic vitality of the area. 
  • Participate in planning with the merchants of the East New York Merchants Association and strategically support their goals. 
  • Participate in the Employer Engagement committee and serve as liaison between the local businesses and the workforce training programs for the purpose of promoting local hiring. 
  • Implement a strategy with local businesses to maximize local hiring. 
  • Manage the Cypress Hills East New York Community Kitchen Incubator Program in the interest of creating a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs in the food services space. 
  • Oversee safety and compliance issues related to the kitchen -- holding staff accountable for relevant systems and procedures necessary for the safe and legal operation of the kitchen. 
  • Participate in the budget development and fundraising for the Business Services programs. 
  • Build and support effective relationships with all CHLDC Divisions for the purpose of supporting businesses and building economic growth in Cypress Hills / East New York. 
  • Monitor and report outcomes ensuring that all funder expectations are met.
  • Represent CHLDC professionally and build relationships with all external stakeholders including elected officials, city agencies, banks, houses of worship, collaborators, and all community stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change. 
  • Other assignments, as requested. 

 

Position Requirements:  

  • Commitment to Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred. Master’s Degree preferred. 
  • Extensive knowledge of NYC business regulatory environment 
  • 5 years’ experience in business counseling including significant work in a supervisory role. 
  • BID management experience preferred. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Bengali, or Mandarin) preferred. 
  • Must clear DOE fingerprinting and background authorizations.

 

Work Environment:

This position works in an office setting during most workdays but also includes extensive travel throughout the community and city including in-person outreach and services for businesses and numerous collaborative meetings. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, cellphones, photocopiers, and standard equipment such as scissors and tape dispensers and will need to walk extensively in various weather conditions for purposes of outreach and collaboration.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



 

Travel:

Substantial local travel is expected for this position.

 

Supervision: 

Reports directly to the Director of Career and Education Programs. 

 

Compensation:  

  • $75,000 - 80,000  annually.  We offer a very competitive benefits package.
  • You are not to exceed 70  hours in pay period (bi-weekly). Monday - Friday between the hours of09:00 am and 09:00 pm. Occasional Saturday work is required.
  • All  full-time employees  are  eligible  to  participate  in  the  agency’s  pre-taxed 403b  Tax Deferred Retirement Investment Plan.
  • In addition, all full-time employees are eligible to participate in the agency’s pre-taxed Commuter Plan through the agency’s Flexible Spending Account.
