Overview
Client is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support the design, deployment, and operation of database solutions within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role focuses on MS SQL and related database technologies while supporting both IT and OT systems that drive manufacturing operations, reporting, and business applications.
The position involves working with cross-functional teams to optimize database platforms, modernize reporting environments, implement data mart and data warehouse solutions, and support advanced analytics initiatives. The engineer will play a key role in maintaining high-availability database environments and supporting operational excellence across the site.
Core Responsibilities
• Provide operational support for on-premises databases supporting equipment, process, manufacturing, and enterprise applications.
• Develop and deploy high-availability MS SQL database solutions for manufacturing applications, including MES, SCADA, and Historian systems.
• Support and learn additional database technologies, including Oracle and DB2.
• Migrate legacy reporting platforms to modern data mart and data warehouse architectures.
• Design and implement advanced SQL procedures, views, SSRS reports, and Power BI dashboards to support complex reporting and analytics requirements.
• Perform Application Integrated Database Engineering by designing, developing, and managing databases in coordination with business applications.
• Create and maintain documentation and processes related to database architecture, security, access management, migrations, and operational procedures.
• Mentor team members on database query optimization, best practices, and database usage.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues across physical and virtualized database environments.
• Support technology stack implementations and database workload migrations from physical infrastructure to virtualized platforms.
• Collaborate with semiconductor process, equipment, and software vendors to improve database performance and reliability.
• Ensure effective database monitoring, auditing, and operational support practices are maintained.
• Participate in incident response, operational meetings, and troubleshooting efforts related to database and application issues.
• Partner with corporate IT and security teams to maintain compliance with cybersecurity and database security standards.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
• Bachelor's Degree.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with MS SQL.
• 5+ years of database tuning experience.
• 5+ years of experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
• 2+ years of PowerShell scripting experience.
• 1+ year of experience with ServiceNow or a similar service management platform or methodology.
• Experience with Data Modeling and Database Design.
• Experience translating requirements into database and technical designs.
• Application Integrated Database Engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL development skills.
• Data Architecture and Data Governance experience.
• Performance-driven database design experience.
• Experience supporting Greenfield build environments.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and production support.
• Demonstrated ability to document infrastructure, automation scripts, and system configurations.
Preferred Skills or Experience
• Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with data protection, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning and execution.
• Hands-on support experience with IT/OT systems and applications in manufacturing environments.
• Experience managing critical outages and remediation efforts.
• Ability to translate business requirements and objectives into technical solutions.
• Knowledge of IT business processes and ITIL methodologies.
• Proven change management and organizational transformation experience.
• Strong oral, written, and collaborative communication skills.
• Experience partnering with stakeholders to identify issues, develop solutions, and drive change.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Software development experience with C#, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, Python, Microsoft Visual Studio, and web application development frameworks.
• Experience developing reports with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and/or Power BI.
• Strong MS SQL relational database development experience.
• Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) application support experience.
• Experience supporting semiconductor front-end or back-end manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting manufacturing operations in software engineering or related technical roles.
• Experience supporting legacy technologies such as VB, VB.NET, and ASP.NET.
• Experience developing reporting and software solutions for manufacturing-focused organizations.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, design, development, and code review.
• Experience building and maintaining interfaces between manufacturing systems and enterprise applications.
