We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data infrastructure, ETL processes, SQL objects, and reporting solutions that support the firm’s Finance and Accounting functions to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and availability of financial data. This role involves optimizing data workflows and delivering reporting and analytics solutions that enhance operational effectiveness and support strategic decision-making. The Senior Data Engineer partners closely with stakeholders across Billing, Collections, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, and firm leadership to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable, and actionable data solutions. They are instrumental in advancing process automation and continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance function while promoting data governance, data quality, and best practices, and providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance existing ETL processes and data structures using SSIS and SQL Server. A significant portion of this role is improving, troubleshooting, and extending pipelines and reports already in production.
- Build, maintain, and optimize SSRS reports, including parameterized reports, drilldowns, scheduled subscriptions, and data-driven subscriptions. SSRS is the firm's current production reporting platform.
- Develop and optimize SQL stored procedures, views, and queries, including execution plan analysis, indexing strategy, and performance tuning of long-running processes.
- Build Power Apps and Power Automate solutions for internal finance and accounting teams to replace manual, email- and spreadsheet-driven processes, including approval routing, request intake, validation, and audit trails.
- Develop Power BI dashboards and semantic models and support the firm's ongoing transition toward Microsoft Fabric.
- Integrate data from multiple sources, including flat-file and Excel-based feeds, cloud applications, Azure SQL, and on-premises SQL Server databases.
- Write Python scripts to automate recurring internal tasks and reporting processes.
- Apply AI tools responsibly to accelerate development, documentation, and analysis, with appropriate validation of all output.
- Partner directly with non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, confirm alignment before building, and explain data and results in plain business language.
- Mentor junior engineers and analysts, perform code reviews, and contribute to team standards and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, reliability, and usability of firm financial information.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
- Minimum eight (8) years of relevant work experience with ETL, data integration and migration, and strong SQL.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with Datawarehouse technologies.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in Power BI development and administration.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working with and translating company financial data into executive-level reports and KPIs.
- Experience in creating and deploying ETL processes using SSIS.
- Hands-on experience to create Python scripts and automate the internal processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Azure, APIs, Microsoft Fabric, SSRS, SSIS, Power Apps, PowerShell, Power BI, and Python.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, data engineering, and data management practices.
Required Skills:
- Exceptional analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational efficiencies, enhance data integrity, and improve the accuracy and reliability of information.
- Results-oriented with a strong commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work in a timely manner.
- Proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to synthesize complex information from diverse sources and develop clear, concise, and actionable business deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts and data insights into meaningful recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to client service, ethical conduct, and firm values.
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage and work independently in remote, hybrid, and in-office settings.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Fabric preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a blend of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills gained through experience in data analysis, database design, and application development.
- Experience with Aderant, Elite, or similar legal billing and practice management systems is beneficial.
