(Senior) Backend Developer (f/m/d)

What you will do:

• Architect, develop, and deploy back- and front-end Python applications, integrating our battery optimizer into Axpo's IT infrastructure

• Enhance our mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) optimization engine, customizing it for battery projects across different countries and markets

• Advise and support team members on software engineering best practices and design patterns

• Collaborate with internal teams across Europe and align with external software providers to ensure seamless system integration

• Serve as a point of contact for internal users of our optimization software, addressing questions and requests

• Coordinate and implement software changes and updates to meet user needs

What you bring & who you are:

• University degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences, or a related discipline

• You have 3+ years of experience in Python or another object-oriented language, ideally as a software engineer in the energy sector or a related field

• Experience with backend development in distributed systems using REST APIs and message queues, e.g., FastAPI and Azure Service Bus

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code to ship containerized software to the cloud – ideally Terraform, Azure, and Docker;experience with Google Cloud Platform is a plus

• You're comfortable with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing

• Ideally, you bring experience with mathematical optimization (especially MILP), Databricks, frontend development, or SQL
