Work Schedule: 9/80 schedule β 80 hours over nine working days, with every other Friday off
The Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the design, analysis, prototyping, integration, and qualification of precision mechanisms and electromechanical hardware used in mission-critical systems.
This role supports mechanical components and subsystems from initial concepts through testing and production transition. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure hardware meets performance, reliability, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
This is an onsite position because the work involves laboratory activities, prototype integration, and hardware testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design, analysis, prototype integration, and qualification testing for precision mechanisms and electromechanical hardware.
- Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, technical data packages, and assembly documentation.
- Evaluate material selections and engineering design trade-offs.
- Optimize designs for performance, size, weight, power, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Plan and execute component-level and system-level tests.
- Analyze test results and drive design improvements.
- Present designs and results during internal and customer reviews, including peer reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs).
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, configuration management, suppliers, technicians, and program test teams.
- Support the transition of mechanical designs into production.
- Participate in field tests and demonstrations as required.
- Education and experience: One of the following pathways:
- Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related experience.
- Graduate degree or equivalent with 0β2 years of related experience.
- At least 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Security clearance: Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required. A clearance active within the last two years will be considered.
- Ability to work onsite at one of the approved locations.
- Hands-on experience designing, developing, integrating, and testing complex mechanical hardware.
- Experience with 3D mechanical CAD, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
- Experience designing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, or packaging modules and electronics.
- Understanding of thermal and structural loading and size, weight, and power (SWaP) optimization.
- Proficiency with Creo or similar CAD tools.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
- Experience with additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
- Experience with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, or manufacturing processes.
- Favorable polygraph.
