ABOUT THE COMPANY
Thoriva is an AI technology company delivering intelligent, data-driven solutions to transform government operations. We combine AI solutions, commercial expertise, and complex business logic to address government and federal agencies’ biggest challenges.JOB SUMMARY
As Senior Application Analyst, you will own the technical direction for complex enterprise initiatives spanning mainframe, distributed systems integration, and Artificial Intelligence capabilities. You will partner directly with clients and internal stakeholders to shape solutions, establish architecture and design standards, lead technical delivery teams, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, testable, and operationally resilient. You will remain technically engaged while mentoring developers and advancing modernization and AI-enabled engineering practices.Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end solution design for complex enhancements, regulatory initiatives, integrations, production improvements, and modernization efforts across enterprise mainframe applications.
- Develop solution architectures, high-level and detailed technical designs, interface specifications, data flows, implementation approaches, and deployment strategies.
- Assess business and client requirements, clarify technical constraints, identify dependencies and risks, and recommend practical solution options and tradeoffs.
- Serve as a senior technical point of contact in client meetings, design reviews, requirements workshops, status discussions, and issue-resolution sessions.
- Present technical concepts, architecture decisions, delivery risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership to mainframe developers and cross-functional delivery teams, including work decomposition, design guidance, code reviews, mentoring, and coordination of complex implementation activities.
- Establish and promote architecture, development, documentation, security, testing, performance, and support standards across the application portfolio.
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS, and related IBM z/OS technologies.
- Guide the design of batch and online processing, data access, scheduling, interfaces, APIs, file exchanges, and integrations with distributed or cloud-hosted systems.
- Partner with enterprise architects, business analysts, QA, infrastructure, security, release management, and operations teams to ensure complete and supportable solutions.
- Lead technical impact analysis, estimation, design validation, proof-of-concept activities, root-cause analysis, and resolution of high-priority production issues.
- Ensure solutions comply with established SDLC, change management, release management, security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive application modernization through API enablement, modularization, automation, DevOps adoption, cloud integration, technical-debt reduction, and improved system documentation.
- Apply approved AI-enabled tools to accelerate code understanding, documentation, impact analysis, test creation, development, and modernization while ensuring human review, quality, security, and traceability.
- Build reusable patterns, reference designs, decision records, and knowledge-transfer materials that reduce dependency on individual subject-matter experts and improve delivery consistency.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive mainframe application development experience, including leadership of complex technical solutions or architecture responsibilities.
- Deep proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and IBM z/OS application environments.
- Strong experience with CICS and/or IMS and with both batch and online transaction-processing applications.
- Demonstrated experience creating solution architectures, technical designs, integration designs, data flows, and implementation strategies for enterprise systems.
- Experience leading technical delivery teams, mentoring developers, conducting design and code reviews, and coordinating work across multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience, including requirements clarification, solution presentations, technical recommendations, risk communication, and issue resolution.
- Experience integrating mainframe applications with APIs, web or distributed platforms, third-party services, file-transfer solutions, or cloud technologies.
- Strong understanding of secure software engineering, testing, performance, production support, operational readiness, and release-management practices.
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and leading root-cause analysis across multiple applications and technologies.
- Familiarity with mainframe development, debugging, source-control, and change-management tools such as Expeditor, Intertest, Endevor, or Changeman.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to influence decisions without relying on direct authority.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide leadership with minimal ramp-up.
Preferred Qualifications
- Financial services, government, lending, or other regulated-industry experience.
- Experience supporting U.S. federal government programs or large-scale mission-critical platforms.
- Experience defining modernization roadmaps for legacy applications, including application decomposition, API enablement, cloud integration, or migration planning.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices involving GitLab, GitHub, Zowe, z/OSMF, Jenkins, or comparable toolsets.
- Experience using AI tools to support code generation, code comprehension, documentation, test creation, impact analysis, and developer productivity.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled and modernization tools such as GitHub Copilot, IBM watsonx, and Zowe.
- Experience working across globally distributed teams and multiple delivery partners.
- Architecture, cloud, Agile, SAFe, ITIL, or related professional certifications.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. citizen security clearance, if required for client or federal program support.
