In partnership with Drew Estate, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to be responsible for ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting for J.Sann & Son, a newly launched cigar brand to include small-batch manufacturing, cigar bar and restaurant, and retail in Miami, FL. You will be responsible for the financial close process, from month-end to year-end, and play a vital role in supporting external audits and the preparation of financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
General
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP
- Reconcile bank statements, subsidiary ledgers, and other accounts to the general ledger
- Complete the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring timely and accurate completion
- Analyze financial data and prepare reports to support management decision-making
- Prepare journal entries, accrual calculations, and amortization calculations for monthly close
- Accurately record intercompany transactions to maintain precise financial records across entities
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process with on-going comparisons of actual performance versus approved budget
- Assist with external audits by providing information and documentation to auditors
Intercompany & Transfer Pricing
- Establishing and documenting the transfer-pricing methodology in coordination with Finance, Tax, Legal, and outside advisors
- Setting up and maintaining approved transfer prices in company systems
- Ensuring cigars, tobacco, materials, services, labor, freight, warehousing, shared resources, etc. are being transferred at the correct approved prices
Manufacturing
- Maintain manufacturing accounting dataset, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold for cigar production
- Assist with inventory transfers and sales between warehouses and related parties
- Prepare and analyze federal and state excise tax calculations, accruals, and payment support, including timing differences related to bonded vs tax-paid inventory
Hospitality
- Support revenue recognition, daily sales close, and POS-to-GL reconciliation, helping ensure completeness and accuracy of reported sales
- Monitor and analyze food, beverage, and cigar margins, including purchase price variance, waste, comps, and shrink
E-Commerce
- Support recording activity within e-commerce platforms, fulfillment systems, and the posting on the general ledger and ultimate financial reporting
- Assist with accurate accounting for returns, allowances, and reserves, including consistent policies and documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a finance or accounting role
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency in financial concepts and reporting standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA certification
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle NetSuite)
- Prior experience in the manufacturing industry or excise tax environment
- Knowledge of inventory management and accounting software
- Knowledge of POS systems such as Toast and their integrations to accounting software
