The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance team responsible for supporting the monthly close process, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting, with a primary focus on TXCPA’s state level entities. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager to ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and prepared on a timely basis. This individual independently manages assigned areas of the general ledger, performs detailed financial analysis, identifies and resolves accounting issues, and helps drive the monthly close process.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the monthly close process for TXCPA entities, ensuring established close deadlines are met.
- Perform detailed reconciliations and review of all balance sheet accounts for state level entities.
- Prepare and review journal entries, support schedules, and other month end close documentation.
- Maintain assigned areas of the general ledger and review activity for accuracy, proper account and department coding.
- Prepare and assist with monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and budget to actual reporting.
- Manage and assist with revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and intercompany activity.
- Evaluate accounting issues, apply appropriate GAAP knowledge, and recommend appropriate accounting treatment.
- Prepare schedules and support documentation for the annual audit and financial statement review.
- Support fiscal year end close activities and preparation of year end financial information.
- Assist the Accounting Manager in supporting the Finance team by providing accounting guidance and helping resolve issues as needed.
- Serve as a backup for key Finance functions, including biweekly payroll and benefits processing, PAC reporting, and other required regulatory and compliance filings.
- Assist the Accounting Manager with special projects, implementation of new systems and processes, accounting transitions, and other accounting responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Seven plus years of progressive accounting experience with significant general ledger, financial reporting, reconciliation, and month end close responsibilities.
- Experience working in a fast-paced accounting environment with structured and strict monthly close deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Strong Excel skills and demonstrated ability to learn, transition to, and effectively use new accounting systems and technologies.
- Experience working in a multi-entity accounting environment.
- Nonprofit or association accounting experience.
- Experience working with a variety of SaaS based accounting and financial systems, such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Ramp, Bill.com, or similar platforms.
- CPA or CPA candidate.
